Some of us were doubtful, some of us were fearful, while others felt what ever the task was or what ever efforts were required to secure a high school education they could make it. For the most of us those were wonderful days filled with anxiety of the challenge that confronted us. Many students were transferred to South Girard High from the various elementary and junior high school in this vicinity. This made our class become the second largest freshman class to enter these corridors. We overcome our many fears under the guidance of Mr. R. Lowe, Mrs. A. Lowe, Mrs. B. Merriweather and Mr. L. Smith. They were deeply con- cerned about our beginning in high school and gave us the very best in- structions. Members of our class participated in the various activities and organi- zation. The band, Majorette squad, football team, student council, Future nurses of Tomorrow, and basketball team. ln the marching Fifty were: Christine Boddie, Jacquelyn Robinson, Helen Johnson, James C. Henry and Lula Flagg. These members played an im- portant part in helping the band become one of the greatest in this area. Under the direction of Mr. L. Smith, Evon Johnson became one of S. G. greatest high stepping majorettes, Cn the football team, Willie Crittendon, James Sellers, John McClendon and Eddie Gibson. These players were under the supervision of Mr. L. T. Harrison and Mr. J. Abron made an excellent record. Representing us on the basketball team were: James Sellers, John Coar, John McClendon and Eddie Gibson. They also made a good record. ln l96O, we were proud sophomores under the guidance of Mr. J. Abron, Mr. L. Smith, Mrs. A. Lowe, and Mr, S. Bruce. At this time we were interest- ed in reaching a higher goal. Mary McCoy was selected head majorette. We were proud of her wonderful performance. During our sophomore year, Johnny Glovers became one of our football stars. We entered our junior year with much enthusiasm. Our sponsors were Mrs. L. l. Carter, and Mr. L. T. Harrison. We took Sociology with the senior class, our class was the first class to have that privilege. During the homecoming activities, Marion Randall reigned as Miss Junior, Mary McCoy and Lula Flagg were attendants to Miss Sweetheart Mary McCoy still held her position, head majorette for S. G. Girarettes. Christine Williams and Marion Randall were added to the cheering squad. Representing us in the student council were: Eddie Gibson, President, Christine Boddie, Secretary, Lula Elagg, recording secretary and Robert Lyles as Chaplain. We were seniors at last. Most of us had that dignified look and felt we were able to face the contest of the world. At this time, Mr. L. T. Harrison, and Mr. L. Robinson were our sponsors. Members holding office in re- organizations were: Christine Boddie secretary of the band, Helen Johnson, assistant secretary of the band, James Henry, Sergeant-at-arms, Jacquelyn Robinson, treasurer. John McClendon, Willie Crittendon, Johnny Glovers, James Sellers, and Eddie Gibson held important position on the football team with Willie Wyatt, Captain. The seniors were well represented among the beauty queens. Christine Boddie held the title, Miss Blue Streak, with Jacquelyn Robinson and Mary McCoy attendants, Miss Sweetheart, Helen Johnson, with Annie C. Jackson and Connie Randall attendants, Helen Johnson and Mary Hicks are members of the Future Nurses of Tomorrow . As the year slowly but surely approaches the end, and we pause to take inventory, we became aware of the fact that we have lost classmates, however, we have gained new ones. This class has certainly made history. The magnificant class of nineteen hundred and sixty three. We truly feel that we have a past to cherish and a future to fulfill. Class Poem Dear ole South Girard lts time for us to depart We have no way of judging the future but the past. Our love for you will always last. In time of hardship and time of trouble, Our love and admiration for you will be doubled Our remembrance of you will last forever. We will forget you . . . never! The sight of you will never go by The growth of you will be like a tree for the remembrance of the Class of 63 the years will pass and we are gone, But deep in our hearts, you remind us of home. By JTESSIE FARLEY 8. ALEXANDER SCOTV lTunel Class Song WHAT WILL MARY SAY We must be going, our hearts are showing, we better hurry away, but when we leave we'll be sorry. What will we do without S.G. Our days were thrilling but we're not willing to say so long S.G. When we leave welll be sorry. What will we do without S.G. What would we do if we should leave you and lose the memories, We always cherished you completely, our poor hearts will break in to We must be going, our hearts are showing, we better hurry away but when we leave we'll be sorry. What will we do without S.G. By JACQUELYN ROBINSON DOROTHY GIBSON CLASS PROPHECY After being chosen to write the class Prophecy, I was really astonished because I began to wonder how would I know what my classmates would be doing five, ten, or even twenty years from now. Just as I was about to give up, I noticed the crystal ball setting on my vanity table. Before now I have never been one to believe in crystal balls but at this time it seemed to light up. So to satisfy my curiosity I picked if up, remembering the words of friends, who had given it to me as a reminder of them. They told me to concentrate deeply and I could see what was going to happen in the future. Closing my eyes, I wondered what Christine Boddie would be doing five years from now and to my surprise, I could see her as a Chemistry in- structor at Tuskegee Institute. As she conversed with other teachers, I was impressed because there beside her was, Ernestine Berry and Johnny Buford on the same faculty. Looking into a crystal ball seemed very childish, if anyone had asked what I was doing, I know I would have failed to give an adequate explanation, therefore, I continued to gaze, until I saw James C. Henry marching 350 steps a minute with the Florida A 84 M Snakes, Jimmy Bellamy, playing cente: with the Harlem Globe Skippers. Helen Johnson the Head Nurse at Walter Reid Hospital, and James Sellers, William Fredrick, and Verner Harris Interns returning from a meeting headed by Doctor John McClendon. This was getting very exciting so I continued to gaze into my ball, this time I see Dorothy Gibson coming out of the recording studio of R.C.A. Victor, after cutting another hit tune. I see Peggy Ford riding in a new Ford with a whole lots of little Purple lips. I see Willie Martin running around the Football field in a baby diaper, because he couIdn't find a football suit large enough to fit him. Mabel Dixion, Eula Dixion, Marian Gaines, Mary Ingram and Burnadine Hubbard Cheerleaders for Cap O Hap and Marie Ingram still criticizing and complaining about her husband, but is too poor to get a divorce. Jessie Farley has his own T.V. show now, Sweet Daddy Farly. Gazing into the ball was getting to be a habit and if it were taken from me I would be lost, Jacquelyn Robinson, a fashion designer in Paris, France and Marian Randall her favorite model. I knew we had some athletes in our class, so I gazed and I saw Larry Justice pitcher for the New York Yankees. Now my eyes are getting tired, but I had to finish. Oh now I see Jimmy Sims a professor at Chain gang University. Norman Key is still walking down the Opelika Road, trying to get to school on time. Delia Lynn and Cigerd Smith have finally gotten married after being engaged for twenty years. Annie Jackson, just finished making a picture in which she co-starred with Bridget Bardot. Now I see Betty Shorts leading Majorette at Alabama State College, Christine Williams is still riding around in that beat up old Oldsmobile. As the picture faded out, another one came into focus, there upon my eyes was Eugene Jones, a great Evangelist holding a revival at Madison Square Garden, Ella Brown has finally gotten Solomon Denard to say I do. Christine Plezes and Alvernia Wright are fighting over a book and the title, My Man. Lillian Pearson and Mary Shortz are co-eds at Clark College, Evon Johnson and Lenarthia Davis were the guest stars on the Beverly Hill-billies. I see Clifford Epps a Disc jockey on WXTY, he is better known as Sir Ragged Knight. Earlene Bass is a great Pianist, J. C. Johnson and Johnnie Glover, Contractors hired by the secretary of interior. Robert Jones hasn't reached the conclusion that he is not a singer, Jerry Brewer has finally graduated, Archie Gary is a great artist, he just finished painting Huckle- berry Hound. Mary Lee Hicks is a stewardess in a plane which Isaac Reynolds is the Pilot and Alexander Scott is still going around kissing girls hands because he is sweet Scott. Sadie Mitchell is an actress, appearing at Harlems' famous Apollo Theater. Willie Wyatt is operating a bootleging Racket from Alabama. I see Sidney Thomas knocking one of Willie Williams little ears off. I see Eddie Gibson one of the scientists traveling to the moon, looking for some green cheese, John Coar is still going up to Westview to eat lunch. Naomi Hurt is Dr. Killjoy's private nurse. And last, but not least, I see Mary McCoy married, working on her M.A. degree at Tuskegee Institute. We know that you are about to make one of the most important steps of your life, realizing this we would like to remind you of this motto You have crossed the river, but the ocean lies ahead. ln taking this step we hope that you, having crossed the river, will not remain beyond the river and not try to conquer the ocean. ln today's world of scientific research, automation, and exploration Man's flight through life depends on his faith and knowledge. Faith and knowledge has helped us in this scientific age to orbit men around the earth. If it had not been for faith do you think Alan Shepard would have made man's sub orbital flight? If this country's men didn't have any knowledge do you think that this Mercury Capsule would have kept him alive? These are questions which you may ask yourself after having crossed the river. After having asked yourselvesthese questions think of the ocean, and for those who may cross the ocean you will see that this country needs men with faith and knowledge to conquer the unexplored. L.
