For the first time in several years, S.G. was the first of the four schools in the annual Labor Day parade on September 5, 1977. In this years Jaycee Jubilee Miss Garland contest, South Gar- land's Marlene Swindale received first runner-up and Cathy Hughes received second runner-up. Other participants in the parade included the Colonel, the drill teams, the band, and a new addition to S.G., the Flag Corps. 3 Student Life 21

The Play Comes Gift The Doctor In Spite of Himself by Moliere, an exhilarating fast moving farce done in the frolick- ing French tradition, was pre- sented on Nov. 10th and 12th by the S.G. Theatre Dept. under the direction of Chuck Lytle, with technical direction and cos- tumes by Susan Pierce. Heading the cast and crew of 52 students were production manager San- dra Westbrook, stage manager Jill Phillips, and Mike Spencer in the title role of Sganarelle. An unusual addition to the cast of characters was a mime troupe which led the play and helped the cast by acting as audience, crowds, and many other types of Deople throughout. 1 2
