New Year Begins . . . SG Comes Aliv As students began to get into the swing of things, SG buzzed with activity. The back to school dance, sponsored by the Student Coun- cil, was held in the cafeteria September 5. Sophomore elections produced the leaders of that class. Spirit in the first pep rally was run- ning high as everyone anticipated an exciting season. ' 'With the advent of the new school year, came the usual moneymaking projects spon- sored by the clubs and the classes. There was, of course, brownie selling at break l Teachers, would you please excuse . . fl. The juniors sold Colonel booster hats to add to their funds. There were bake sales and car washes, and even a car bash sponsored by the FCA. Organization and planning became key words at South Garland. M W 7 44 These carefree summer days came to an abrupt halt earlier than usual this year. The 1970-71 school year began August 27, seven days earlier than in 1969-70. The organizations at SG began their pre-school work-outs in earnest to prepare for the upcoming year: The Year of the Colonelsf, The Southern Belles and the football team began their summer Workouts August 10 to prepare for a glorious season. The basketball team began their practices even though the season did not begin until November 20. Pre- season practices for the band paid off in the form of a number one rating for the 2nd con- secutive year. TOP.' Mn.
