WHITAKER - Science CLASS HISTORY by: RICHARD D. MOSLEY History is a written record of past events. We know that there is nothing so nostalgic as re- membering the past. During the past years we have come to know each other as brothers and sis- ters, rather than classmates alone. We have been challenged with some of life's toughest problems - financial difficulties, per- sonal problems, obstacles, that at times seemed unsurmountableg but we accepted the supreme challenge and won. The first year was one of greenness and innocence at this great adventure of high school entrance. We loved everyone and eagerly sought to be known and loved by everyone. Several made the honor roll and openly beamed at gaining a little fame and recognition so early in the game. We became affiliated with varied organizations of our school such as the Students Library Association, the F.B.L.A., Chorus and other activities. In our second year, excitement began. We had learned the rules, requirements, and social standards of the school. We worked diligently and tried to make high grades for unit credits. Then there were the sports, Baseball, Basketball and Football. Our present Senior Varsity men are: Harold Cleveland, Earnest Jackson, Roscoe Willis and Turner Burley. Some played the entire four years in high school, some two years, but they all played well in spite of frequently tough opponents. 'Evelyn Miles and Irene Dorsey upheld the girls status in the basketball world. Lugenia Beasley retained a high degree of scholasticism throughout these four years. 'We salute her. Lugenia Beasley and Richard Mosley won first and third prizes respectively in an Essay contest entitled What I Plan to Do to Help My Community . Richard D. Mosley also won a S25 bond for Excellence in Library Service. Many students have left South Fulton and entered into other areas of endeavors. We who are about to embark on the sea of life realize that a Power greater than we, will aid our finding a harbor wherein we might serve. We shall surely never forget our port of embarkation - South Fulton. xl: 41 O gi o 3 P 'a IQ: - 1-. 4 'Z .Wi , sf Q. 1 I A u Left to Right: Seated: Sims, Davis, cmd Price. It is quite hard to discourage these two martyrs from a goal which they seek. With the combination of their secret ingredient and their stubborness to succeed, success should follow. gui Zre55eJ HENRY WHITE and ANNIE RIDLEY Hats off to these two. Henry' s and Annie's attire for the year have proven a point. They have discovered and proven that clothes, alone, are not the essentials for being well dressed. Cleanliness, dressing appropriately, neatness, and being well groomed are daily exhibited by these two. Wojf ,4fl.Lfzf HAROLD CLEVELAND and EVELYN MILES The Athletic Department of S.F.l-l. is truly represented by Harold and Evelyn. Harold, an all-around athlete has become a popular hero around S.F.'s campus. l-le has won nu- merous letters, jackets, trophies, and other honorable awards through his athletic abili- ties. Evelyn, with her feminine gracefulness, has gained fame while on the varsity basket- ball team. It is quite easy to see why these active students have gained this title. mmf f9.,... f... CHARLSEE HICKSON and ROSCOE WILLIS lmagine that! Charlsee and Roscoe are the Most Popular of the Class of '6O. Charlsee, with her pixie personality and good manners, has a smile for everyone. Roscoe, with his athletic ability and mischievous persuasive smile, simply captures the heart of everyone. lf you have had the pleasure of knowing these two Charmers , you will agree that they rate the title. Wolf Jnfeffeffuaf LOUGENIA BEASLEY and LARRY TAYLOR Lougenia and Larry have achieved and maintained high scholastic averages at South Fulton High. Not only do they rate high scho- lastically, but also score in friendliness and leadership. With all this to their credit, it's easy to see why Lougenia and Larry have gained this title Won f7.Jmfe.1 RONALD sms and EVELYN MILES F or pure and enriched entertainment, one would surely have to procure entertainment as done by Ronald and Evelyn. Ronald, along with his talking saxophone, can also act and sing. His humorous and easy-going man- ners can also be found in the characteristics of the average comedian. Evelyn, can leave an audience spellbound with her inspiring singing and dancing. It is a small wonder why these two talents have achieved this honor. Standing four stories high, it has 3,000 students. The office is larger, the cafeteria is twice as large as before, and the library - oh the library - what a beautiful sight! The school gymnatorium has also been enlarged and now seats 6,000. The music and band rooms have been soundproofed and there is a science lab on the very top floor. Of course, the students don't have to walk up all those flights of stairs. There are escalators to carry them from floor to floor. As we look closer, we see that it is Homecoming at South Fulton. The faculty and student body are in assembly. Fulton's principal, Henry White, welcomes the alumni. Looking at the congregation I glimpsed the following: Lugenia Beasley, who is now Dean of Women at Spelman College, Jeannette Martin, head of the English Department there, and Beverly Jacobs, who teaches Frence at Morris Brown College. They were being interviewed by Copey Davis, who is top reporter for the Atlanta Journal and Constitution Newspapers, lnc. Doctors Howard Pharr and Willie Dorninech, famed scientists who have just perfected a cure for Leukemia, talked enthusiastically with Richard Mosley, associate history pro- fessor at Howard University. Richard is accompanied by his wife, the former dignified Barbara Hanher- son, and their lovely triplets - Kim, Kirk and Kevin. Also, at intermission, Ronald Sims, who is doing a great job with the renowned South Fulton Band, and the coach Roscoe Willis, talk to James Price, who is President'of the Citizens Trust Company. Nearby is his confidential secretary, alert Carolyn Abercrombie. There's that world famous baritone, Richard Montgomery, who just completed singing at Carnegie Hall. Thomas Hill and Lawrence Freeman, who are in the far corner of the gymnatorium, own a chain of ultra-modern hotels and are making much progress. There' s that famous comedy team. Rudolph Cooper and Edward White, who recently starred in a film with charming Margaritte Harris, a former Miss South Fulton. Margaritte is wearing an exquisitely made suit designed by Charlsee Hickson, who is owner and chief designer of Charlsee Hickson Fashions Unlimited . Harold Cleveland, ,professional halfback with the Baltimore Colts, entered the gymnatorium a few seconds ago. With him is Ernest lack- son, manager of the Colts. Although many are present, there are absent alumni. Harald Paige, who is now in Congress, has been selected an advisor on International affairs in Liberia. Professor Turner Burley, we learned is giving a Physical Education test at Washington High, and could not be present. Major General Harry Gibbs, who is stationed in Austria, and Evelyn Miles, who recently vacationed in Paris after making a film in Switzerland, are also among those that are absent. When the assembly program resumes, foyce Wright, an Elementary School teacher, in Boston, Massachusetts Public School System, brings greetings to the Class of 1960. Then as the congregation sings the school song, nostalgia for the good old days overwhelms us all: TELL ME WHY THE IVY TWINES, TELL ME WHY THE STARS DO SHINE, TELL ME WHY THE SKY'S SO BLUE, TELL ME, SOUTH FULTON, WHY WE ALL LOVE YOU.'r' 7? Hunter and J. Abrams have been working very hard trying to get the team in condition to perform with the great prowess that our fans have witnessed this past season. Through the hot, humid weather, our coaches and team labor- ed untiringly and commendably. Prior to this season the coaches harbored faint doubt about the teams magnificence. Foremost in the teams mind, however, was becoming a championship team. It almost hap- . pened, but alas! Our winning streak broke and we finished the season with two defeats and six victories. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to our coaches for doing a grand job in leading us to a very suc- cessful season. l959-6O VARSITY TEAM - Left to Rightg First Row: L.. Wright, C.
