Head Majorette, Lori Cottrell Elizabeth Stubna, Melissa Kolo 102 Opryland '83 NQEQQ Musigiamg After nearly a decade, our school was again represented at the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District l High School Band Festival. After being nominated by Band Director Mr. Testa Elizabeth Stubna and Melissa Kolo at- tended the three-day Festival at Hamp- ton High School. The concert began promptly at 210C p.m. on the first Saturday in February Dr. Jason Dreibelbis, Superintendent ol Hampton Township School District, gave greetings and announced a shortening 01 the program due to the blizzard outside Ted Cramer, director of the host band led the first tune, Salute to PMEA March. John Boyd of Kent State University was the guest conductor for the remainder 01 the afternoon. The program included Tournament Galop and The Old Circus Band March, both of which he had helped compose. The fast moving, vibrant Wedding Dance concluded the concert. Both Elizabeth and Melissa found the experience rewarding. They met many nice people from other schools. Meliss' explained, There's a lot of practicin and you really get tired. Elizabeth adde that 'fa great sense of accomplishment' made it worthwhile. Melissa was selected to participate i Regional Band which was held at Butle Intermediate High School in the middl of March. Dr. Jon Woods of Ohio Stat University was the guest conductor leading such pieces as the William Tell Overture and the Colossus of Columbia March. 3, ' , , The Little Green Machine had another banner year on the football field. Not only were they the hit of the halftime show, but the host of their very own festival. At Carlynton's Festival the Green Machine once again dazzled everyone with a strong performance that earned a standing ovation from the enthusiastic crowd. After a long absence from Montour's Festival of Bands, the Green Machine returned to put on a show that will not soon be forgotten. This year's success, of course, was due to hours of hard work and practice. Their benefits can be seen by the band's accomplishments and the pride the band takes in a job well done. Our Key Club, an outgrowth of the South Fayette Kiwanis Club, has maintained its high standards of community service over the past year. September began with a membership drive and dinner, but from then on, it was strictly business. First they sponsored the Sadie Hawkins Dance in November. The Club then traveled to Mayview to sing Christmas Carols to the patients, and they sold carnations to the student body for Valentine's Day. Proceeds went to the Spina Bifida Association. Carnations were again sold for Saint Patrick's Day to benefit the Guild for the Blind Scholars. There was a car wash in May, and the year concluded with the An- nual Senior Key Club Breakfast held in early June. The Club received special recognition when, in October, Paul Pollice, Lieutenant Governor of the Pennsylvania Key Clubs, in- vited Mr. McDonough to nominate an officer to replace him. Lora Bartley, a junior, was the deserving nominee. Although he is graduating, President Bob Levi already has helped lay plans for next year's activities, which will include put- N ting a new cover on the sign in front of the school. Those walls in the area which now contain patriotic symbolism will also be painted with murals to remind people that South Fayette is a nice Abbott, Secretary, Louis Redenbaugh, Treasurer, Robert Levi, President. place in which to live.
