CHRISTMAS ACTIVITIES The Creatures Were Stirring Christmas, with its many facets, brought excitement, solemnity, and good will to South Eugene. Everyone responded to the seasons spirit in his own way, A Cappella choir members spent months in rehearsal for their beautiful Christmas performance of l-landels 'Nlessiahf' The Girls' League Doernbecher Tea lighted the facet of charity in early December as girls made dolls for childrens hospitals. The friendly rivalry among the language clubs was suspended as the French, German and Spanish clubs com- bined to hold a multi-lingual caroling party. National Thespians entertained the children of Weyerhaeuser employees with a Christmas variety show the day after their semifformal dance at the home of Becky Hemphill, Yuletide Glide, sponsored by Axernens Council, took the place of the Sophomore Christmas Dance. The Activities Committee decorated the front and center halls with greenery, candy canes, a brick fireplace, and a stained glass window. Members of the faculty highlighted Christmas in their classes, some with actual study units, others with festive bulletin boards and room decorations. Following the tradition of many years, the A Cappella choir sang carols in the halls, and holiday music was played over the public address system during lunch hours. From the happy sounds of cheerful greetings to the ioyous and beautiful melodies of the Messiah, Axemen were sur- rounded by Christmas.
