Pond, provided outstanding curriculurn and facilities for all ot the Eugene public schools, Dr, Pond turnished the teachers and adminis- trators with a firm backing tor plans and activities which originated yyithin the faculty group itselt, The non-salaried school board worked conscientiously in coniunctton with the superintendent in achieving high standards ot education yytthin a budget of Sl 2,033 225.00 The oO adrntnistrators and all principals supervised activities in 28 elententaiy nine iuntor and three senior high schools as well as the Childrens Hospital School, Eugene is the second largest district in Oregon, with an enrollment ot W 95l students and personnel including l,O3O teachers and M32 others. lo nteet the dentands at the rapidly groyying population ot Oregon s second largest city, James Monroe and John E, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS, SEATED FROM LEFT Henry Nilsen, Richard Miller Dr, l., W. VICE-PRINCIPALS, COUNSELORS The lndispensables Working diligently tor the smooth operation ot the school were the three vice-principals and tour counselors. Students were encouraged to make the best at their high school years Through the dedicated guidance ot these people. Ralph Lind, in his first year at South Eugene, capably coordinated vital aspects at school man- agement. Attendance and discipline occupied the greater part ot his time. Miss Nina Kitts, dean ot girls, supervised the activities ot Girls' League and headed the scholarship program. Directing the test- ing and guidance programs and working vvith the Axemens Council was Paul Potter, dean ot boys, Four tull time counselors, Mrs. Helen Hall, Miss Barbara Barker, Merle Hayes, and Ambrose Hutt, arranged schedules and advised students on academic and personal problems, Mrs, Helen Hall Miss Barbara Barker
