Spanish students translate short story, FOREIGN LANGUAGE Twisting the Tongue Language is a barrier when not comprehended, but when mastered serves to turther understanding between peoples. More than mere vvords, a'language represents a culture. While beginning students worked mostly on pronunciation, grammar, parts ot speech and spelling, the second and third year students studied the literature ot the language and investigated the culture ot the people. As the world becomes smaller through transportation and communi, cation, it was promising to see over 1160 students at South learning a foreign language. Lab practice gave students a chance to hear themselves speak. While it otten proved amusing, it also helped students correct their pronunciation. Under the direction ot Miss Abby Adams, department head, nevv materials vvere secured to start a library, invaluable to students preparing tor Advanced Placement examinations. Mrs. Esther Smith plays Spanish tape in language lab. se 38
