In their six wins, the Baby Axemen produced several pros- pects for future varsity competition. A powerful backfield composed of John Chaney, Bob Dunham, Pat Maney and Dave Merriam provided the offen' sive punch that propelled the sophomores to victory. A stingy defense, spearheaded by Paul Skillern and Larry Mellem, that allowed opponents only 48 points, complemented the offense. Spirit and de- termination characterized the season, carrying the Axemen to victory as they twice came from behind to down their roughest opponent, Cottage Grove.
