Organizations SERVICE CLUB, under the direction of President Larry Allen and Advisers George Petersen and Richard Embree, han- dled tickets at home games, worked at concession stands, and ushered at important school events. Creating a float for the Homecoming parade, furnishing a Christmas tree for the faculty room,and enioying a trip to the coast in the spring were some of the proiects that highlighted the year. FUTURE TEACHERS OF AMERICA, led by President Paula Farquhar and Advisers William Dedman and Dr. Ray- mond Kehl, offered an excellent opportunity for students to explore the world of education. In visits to the Univer- sity of Oregon and to several grade schools, members became acquainted with some of the responsibilities which face teachers, DISTRIBUTIVE EDUCATION CLUB OF AMERICA gave members a chance to gain knowledge and experience in marketing and distribution, and to build status at South Eugene for careers in this field. DECA members assisted with Eugenes Christmas Village, had a potluck dinner and fashion show,and sold candy and troll dolls to help increase club funds. Under the direction of President Jim Halford and Adviser Mrs. Alice Barnhart, members also managed the school store and received ten percent of the profits for their treasury. Crgonizotions INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS LEAGUE devoted most of the year to the study ot Emerging African Notions' Under the direction ot President Meg Ghent and Advisers Miss Grace Miller and James Freeman, members participated in the annual tund-roislng UNICEF Halloween drive, learned talk dances at bi- weekly meetrngs, and attended the state conference at the Unrversrty of Oregon, The club also sponsored the annual llil. assembly on United Nations Day. PALETTEERS gave members o chance to turther their interest in art and fundamentals ot design. Aided by Adviser Maurice Van and President Sheila Anderson, members decorated murals on the nevv vvastepoper cons tor the school grounds, helped paint o permanent mural tor the hall outsrde the art room, and took sketchrng trips ta the McKenzie River and severol coastal areas, In June, a SiO gitt certitrcote from cores Art Supplies vvos presented to the most active member ot the club, Y-TEENS were eager to develop as inclrviduals through community service. Led by President Joanne Woodworth and Adviser Mrs. Jacqueline Bonner, members made Easter Baskets tor the Children s Hospital School sponsored several parties and on ollwschool dance vvith the Hi-Y group, ond sold Christmas trees to help increase club tunds. Members also drafted a bill on bankruptcy claims for the 'Youth and Government' mock legislature in Salem.
