Sharon Sfivers, lefl, and Ginny Tupper improve reading skills during language lab session wllh Qhe help of French lape recordings FOREIGN LANGUAGES Victory Over Verbs New doors to learning were opened for students when they enrolled in a foreign language class and discovered the native characteristics and customs of another culture. Use of the 515,000 language laboratory helped students gain self- confidence by listening to their own voices, hearing tapes and conversing with various guest speakers. Beginning courses concentrated on pronunciation and grammar while literature and oral conversa- tion were emphasized for more advanced students. South Eugene's program of foreign languages in- cluded four years of French, three of Spanish, two of German, and two of Latin.
