3 is iiiii During the fourteen years that Dr. Hines has presided over the Eugene Public School System, seventeen new schools have been added, and the number of teachers has been doubled to accommodate more than twice the enrollment of students. Dr. Hines, leadership is largely responsible for the outstanding quality of facilities and curriculum in the Eugene Public School System. There- fore. the class of 1959 dedicates the 1959 Eugenean to Dr. Clarence Hines in recognition of his years of faithful service in the Eugene Public School System. 5

Dr. Clarence Hines Born in Morrisville, Missouri, in 1902, Dr. Hines has had more than thirty-three years of experience in the field of education. He has served as teacher, coach, principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Superintendent, and as visiting Professor of Educa- tion at the University of Oregon's College of Education. Dr. Hines received his Bachelor Degree at Drury College in 1925. He has his Masters Degree from the University of Missouri and he studied for his Doctor of Education Degree at the Universities of Washington, California, and Oregon. He is a member of Pi Gamma Mu, Phi Delta Kappa, Kiwanis, Masons, and The Oregon' Association of School Administrators. His hobbies include hunting and fishing. Appointed as Superintendent in 1946, Doctor Hines is executive head of the Eugene Public School System and carries out the policies set by the District School Board and the Oregon State Law.
