QW ifigh , 0 t , f r A Cross-country, though lacking much of the luster and popularity of football, has managed to hold the interest of many boys who like to run or wish to stay in condition for a major sport. Since their season runs in conjunction with the football season, they may fail to gain' proper recognition for their efforts. Coached by Hank Kuchera, who likes to keep his basketball players in shape during the off season, this yearis team has made a respectable showing in their encounters over the state. Our thinclads came out on top in dual meets with North Eugene, Willamette, and Albany. We were also victorious in a three-way J. J. SQUAD ROW I: Herb Reed, John Henry, Mike Loni- gan, Mike Smith. ROW II: Gary Lisson, 1 Steve Hamaker, Don Cloulter, John Sund- quist, Tom Myers, Hank Kuchera. lf 5 s meet with Albany, and Corvallis. A trip to Cottage Grove resulted in third place among five schools. In a state-wide meet at North Marion, in which 23 schools competed, our varsity placed hfth and the J.V.'s garnered a third place. In the State meet held at Wilson High in Portland, the varsity copped 13th in a Held of 27. The J.V.'s upheld their good name by bringing home a 3rd place in a Held of 2l. John Jost, a promising sopho- more, grabbed 8th in a Held of 147 runners from A-1 schools all over the state. , V 2' 1 f.
