Theres one arm free, anyway. Axemen Miss Tournament by Two Points The Axemen lost a game and a tournament berth by losing to Springfield. The score was 45-43. A capacity crowd saw Springfield, led by Wally Knecht, play one of its best games to overpower the Axe- men. This was a much improved Springfield team than the one that lost to Willamette lA-Zl earlier in the season. The first half was very close, even though Eugene was not given the benefit of the doubt on some foul calls. At half-time Eugene was ahead by five points. The second half was nip and tuck until Warren and Jones fouled out. After that Springfield began to overtake Eugene. ln the last few minutes Eugene tried valiantly to win, but the Millers managed to hold onto their slim lead. Although the Axemen did not play their best game, some players did very well. Tom Jones fouled out with l5 points, as did Charlie War- ren with l3 points. Springfield will be in the tournament for the first time in lO years, while Eugene has gone l2 times in the last l5 years. The fact that the Axemen wouldn't be in the tournament was still a bitter pill to take. Its Eugenis ball G90ln- S. 5 H Neil Goldschmidt
