Charlie adds to the score Albany Bounced by Axemen The Axemen won their l2th game of the season by defeat- ing Albany, 74-33. The Axe- men started the game with three quick buckets. This kind of scoring was to continue throughout the entire game. During the first halt Kuch sub- stituted very treely. By halt- time Eugene was ahead by 20 points, The second half was an exact duplicate of the first half. Eugene made baskets continuously w h i le Albany couldn't hit anything, Be- cause Charlie Warren had a bad back, he didn't play as usual. However, he did manage to score 23 points. This game showed that Eugene had more than a one-man ball club with John Polhemus, Neil Gold- schmidt, Rich Cerkoney, Tom Jones, and Charles Wilson playing mighty good ball. South Eugene . Beaverton Smeored A sharp-looking and tough Beaverton team went clown to defeat against an impressive South Eugene team led by all-stater Charley War- ren, in a non-league tilt. The win made it six in a row for Coach Hank Kuchera's Axemen as Warren hit 43 points. For a while during the tirst halt the game was quite close but Eugene pulled away in the sec- ond halt. The first quarter started as any regular game with both teams matching each other tor baskets, By the start of the second quar- ter, Eugene had a commanding lead. As the first halt ended Eugene was already the winner. All throughout the game Kuch substituted very freely. The second halt showed that Eugene was not going to let up on de- fense, Eugene kept pouring in the points while holding the Lions to a meager eight points. The whole team, paced by Greg Willener, looked very good. The only person who didn't play was Charlie Warren. l-le sat an the bench be- cause he had a pulled muscle in his back.
