PRINCIPAL ALEXANDER E. MORSTAD There is no top! No matter how high we rise, We discover infinite distances above. Less than a century removed from the one-room school, outfitted with rows of two-seater desks, a pot-belly stove, and shelves of Mciluffey readers, we strive for ways and means to prepare a new genera- tion to understand and to master the mys- teries of the space age. We are faced with the job of educating more students than ever before and doing it faster and better. Like Alice in Wonderland once said, HYou have to keep runningxjust to keep up. With all of our exploring in this exotic and ever changing world, our basic obligation to youth is still to know him, to respect him, and really to care for him. This unlocks the door to real learning and growth.

VICE-PRINCIPAL PHILL T. MAY Exploration is searching for new discoveries. We can seek the unknown only when we have full knowledge of the known. At this point we can deter- mine which direction we should take to progress. Truly, A'Progress in Explora- tion could be a good definition of education, which acquaints us with all that has already happened, and thus prepares us to meet the future. South Division has participated in this train- ing since before the turn of the centu- ry. There is no way to measure how many seeds were sown in the minds of the thousands of students who have passed through our school-seeds which often take years to develop. But of one thing we can be sure-South Divisionites have made many fine con- tributions to our world's fabulous Progress in Exploration. ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MISS ESTELLE R. STONE Exploration and Discoveryf, always motivating educational progress, has in recent years radiated in all direc- tions. Antibiotics, nylon, cellophane, radio, television, laser beams, IBM computers, and orbiting-astronauts were totally unknown to the world in 1899 when South Division first wel- comed its students to Coblentz Hall. What a Knowledge Explosion our dear old school and others have wit- nessed and shared a role in preparing. The spirit of research and creativity has always spurred students onward. Opportunity may be knocking at your door. Remember that continuous youth and adult education is absolutely necessary to keep pace with current scientific advancement on land, in out- er space, and in ocean depths. With God's blessing and help, may greater Exploration and Discovery be also focused upon greater human under- standing for world happiness and peace.
