principal alexander e. rnorstad Ringing the old school bell on September 5, Mr. Alex- ander E. Morstad ushered in a new era as principal of South Division. I am happy to come back homef' he stated when greeting students and teachers in Coblentz hall. Returning to begin his twenty-ninth year of service to the school, Mr. Morstad was absent for three years when he served as vice-principal of Rufus King and as principal of Edison Junior High. For promoting oratorical contests, for organizing cheerleading, and for faithfully attending sports activities, South's congenial principal received the affectionate title of Mr. South Division before leaving in December, 1952. To help students make high school years the best ones in life, Mr. Morstad advises, Plan your course so that you will have definite goals and objectives. Take advant- age of opportunities around you. Try to get along with people, be punctual, and above all, as Theodore Roose- velt stated, 'Live a strenuous life.' High on the list of ingredients needed to make high school years the best ones in life are the following sug- gested by Vice-principal Phill May: K'These four wonderful high school years-between our carefree grade school days and graduation time with its added maturity and responsibility! These are years for making life-long friends, establishing habits, plans, and attitudes to guide us. In them, we acquire knowledge and skills for future use, patterns ofliving are set which will stay with us alwaysf' Mr. May's understanding of youthful problems, his impartial judgment, and his friendly counsel have helped South Divisionites to discover the enduring values ofan education. phill may vice principal 12 l
