Stepping along together, in work as well as in play, the students of South Division have this year, more than ever before, participated in school activities. They are quickly realizing the importance of teamwork as the means to a peaceful post-war world, and are readily putting it to use in their own projects. It is their job to guide the world of tomorrow, and they must develop the ability to work together as well as alone. . With a splurge of patriotism they answered the plea made by our gov- ernment to salvage paper. They went from home to home seeking that material so vital to the war industry, and then voted that their paper-drive money, over a thousand dollars, be donated to the worthy work of the Red Cross. As young Americans helping to shoulder the burden of this war, they purchased bonds and stamps week after week and urged outsiders to do the same. It was with an earnest desire to help in the war effort that many girls volunteered their services to sew, to knit, and to fold bandages for the Red Cross. Manya and Ivan, our Polish and Russian guests, were delighted to find that we were most industrious in our war work and they, too, be- came all wrapped up in helping the Red Cross. They were more than will- ing to add their efforts to hastening the day of unconditional surrender and final peace. This year students were active also in extra-curricular functions. Liter- ary-gifted students spent much of their time writing for the school publica- tions, while the social-minded passed many happy hours in the various school clubs. By backing football games, turning out for wrestling matches and track meets, and cheering at basketball tilts they showed their usual Shoulder to shoulder spirit. In fact, they roared the basketball team to a city championship. Pedro, our South American visitor, saw that we were as stubborn as bulls when it came to yielding school meets. All the students, though, found new delight in school dances and in class productions: they maintained the traditional feeling for the Christmas pageant and the annual Music festival. Crooner Frankie and Swooner Janie, American jivesters, said we were on the beam whenever there was music. From freshmen to seniors, whether busy working for victory or adding another page to the school annals, South Divzstonztes are traveling on the road to health, happiness, and success, Stepping along together . t
