The need for a multi-community high school was felt in each community for years. Detailed planning for and designing of the building began in 1975. Groundbre- aking and construction started in early 1976, and the building was ready for occu- pancy in August, 1978. The new building, and the staff who have accepted the challenge of meeting the edu- cational needs of the students who will learn there, are proof that communities can come together with success. It is the tenth year anniversary for South Dearborn High School and the yearbook staff would like to dedicate this year’s an- nual theme to this very special occasion in the short life of the consolidation. In the ten years the school has prospered to be one of the best educational instituti- ons in the State of Indiana and will, without a doubt, continue in the positive direction that has been established in the early deca- de of growth. 3 ■4

Many individuals have been involved in planning, designing, building, and staffing the South Dearborn High School. Their efforts, and the building itself are testimony to community commitment. The South Dearborn Community Schools Cor- poration is comprised of the communities of Aurora, Dillsboro, Manchester, and Moor- es Hill. Each community sends to the high school individual needs, but shares a com- mon goal of quality education. The coming together of the young people in the new school enhances that quality education, and provides for each student a more diverse and valuable social and per- sonal experience. Each community benefits from this kind of education. Every student is better prepared to return to the commu- nity, or go beyond the hometown as a more adequately prepared citizen, a more tho- roughly experienced person.
