Studies Fun and games with a dedicated college Joe. Mr. Hellooooo! Mr. Wilson. Mr. Lyon, (he voice of the Sou.h Dearborn Nowlin. n,fi S' A sigh of relief as class is dismissed. The Social Studies Department pro- vided many interesting movies, speak- ers, and trips this year. Some of the movies were The Grapes of Wrath, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pit- man, Theodore Roosevelt, and a series on America with William Shatner. Speakers on rape and Congressman Lee Hamilton visited many of the se- niors. Conservation officer Paul Shep- herd demonstrated the uses of a radar gun. For Mr. Heim’s Crime class, Coro- ner Randy Lothridge showed a slide show in the auditorium on his work. A highlight for the seniors was the bus trip to and from Indianapolis to visit the state capital. The students were fa- miliarized with the building and the different branches of state government. Senator Nugent answered questions and explained things to interested stu- dents. These classes also offered to register eligible students to vote. Some of the teachers also taught subjects in other departments. Mr. Wil- helm, the German teacher, was the in- structor in the Citizen-Geography class and Mr. Lyon’s, the world history teacher, taught Spanish I. All these teachers have their own personalities. With Mr. Nowlin, every- one had fun and games, Mr. Wilson got everyone psyched up,” and many seniors had Crime with Heim.” Mr. Lyon's Voice of the Knights” kept his classes informed. is

Social Mr. Hubbartt is head of the class as well as the department. Mr. Hubbartt takes a now outlook on the juniors. Coroner Randy Lothridge speaks to crime class. Mr. Heim at his prime. New to the faculty this year in the Social Studies department was Mr. Wilson. He taught such courses as: U.S. History to the juniors, and psy- chology, personality theory, and be- havior disorders to the seniors. He was in charge of the hoys’ intra-mural teams, and helped coach the football and the boys track teams. As head of the department, Mr. Hub- bartt said, “I think the department is great and the teachers do a fine job. He also believes the students get a quality education. He also men- tioned that there were some changes in the curriculum and the class load was lightened.

MATHEMATICS Proofs, logarithms, and cosine were all part of the “Math Mania.” Some students who ventured as far as Geom- etry or Analysis came out wishing they hadn’t. When it was time for a test one could always see the halls filled with students cramming. But, with our great staff of teachers, many came out hav- ing learned a great deal. During the year, the Math Department acquired a computer which was used to supple- ment instruction for academic stu- dents who wished to do extra work. Mr. Hornbach also instructed students how to operate the computer and Tom Steuver programmed it. Mrs. Smith equates her students with triangles. Mr. Hornbach looks back again for the answer. Mr. Uunn seems happy with his new job. variables, and square roots. The class waits patiently to copy the problem. Jim Kinne tries his hand at a proof. 16
