GERMAN CLASS There is one in every crowd. Mr. Wilhelm surveys his class. A teachers work is never done. As the students walked in school on the first day many were surprised to see a new German teacher, Mr. Mark Wilhelm. Besides teaching German I, German II, civics, and geography, Mr. Wilhelm was assistant coach for hoys’ freshman basketball, cross country, and track teams. He also was the junior class sponsor. Some German students and other interested students were greatly enriched over spring break by taking a trip to Germany and Austria. Some of the cities visited were Mu- nich, Salzburg, and Innsbruck. Some of the sites seen were Olympic village, the Royal Castle of Neuschwanstein, and the famous salt mines of Salzburg. Mr. Wilhelm hoped to teach German III next year. 13 Hi! SPANISH CLASS Sehorita Draut teaches four levels of Spanish. What! Another verb tense! La maestra. Miss Draut. contemplates the day's Three, Two. One ... Blast off! events. This post year, the Spanish II and III classes attended a Spanish flamenco performance in Cincinnati. Then after- wards, the classes ate at a Spanish restaurant. Ms. Draut said that what the first year students liked best was the break- ing of a pinata at Christmas time. Students were first taught vocabu- lary and sentence structure. As they furthered their Spanish education they learned the fluency of speaking and the Spanish Culture. The students’ learning was enlight- ened by a machine which allowed the student to talk independently with the teacher, while others listened to an ex- ercise tape. Ms. Draut hoped to have more trips and special guests. 12

Social Mr. Hubbartt is head of the class as well as the department. Mr. Hubbartt takes a now outlook on the juniors. Coroner Randy Lothridge speaks to crime class. Mr. Heim at his prime. New to the faculty this year in the Social Studies department was Mr. Wilson. He taught such courses as: U.S. History to the juniors, and psy- chology, personality theory, and be- havior disorders to the seniors. He was in charge of the hoys’ intra-mural teams, and helped coach the football and the boys track teams. As head of the department, Mr. Hub- bartt said, “I think the department is great and the teachers do a fine job. He also believes the students get a quality education. He also men- tioned that there were some changes in the curriculum and the class load was lightened.
