There were a few changes in the Language Arts Department this year. One was the addition of three new teachers to the faculty: Ms. Turner, Mr. Gill, and Mr. Dietrich. The second oc- curred when the Journalism classes expanded from two to four classes. The newspaper, Knight Times, had two classes, one to write the articles and another to produce the paper. Mr. Showalter advised both classes. Jour- nalism II also expanded to produce our yearbook. Mr. Dietrich supervised the annual staff. Mr. Dietrich experiences (he frustrations of being Kook amt Becky type the very words you ore reading- new to the department. 10 Newspaper room ... a busy place.

Involves Everyone Mrs. Jewett ponders the meaning of Juniors. The Language Arts department had many different courses that the stu- dents could choose. For the under- classmen, there were three years of English and literature which were re- quired to graduate. Honors English and literature were offered for fresh- man and sophomore students. Hu- manities was available for junior stu- dents. Dramtics and Play Production, taught by Mrs. Rullman, was offered to sophomore, junior, and senior stu- dents. This department was also in charge of producing the school publi- cations, Knight Times and Knight Life. Seniors had seven different mini- courses available: speech, vocabulary, Shakespeare, mythology, discussion and debate, advanced composition, and English literature I. These senior courses were all taught by Mr. Kin nett, the department head. Mrs. Hullman guides her students on a creative journey through play production. One of Mr. Kinnctt's many recitations. Mr. K. gets the spirit. Whether it he underclassmen faking English and literature or a senior tak- ing mini-courses or just having one’s name in the yearbook or newspaper proved that each student had some in- volvement with the Language Arts De- partment. The teachers of this department taught the students creativity in writ- ing. grammar, speech, and the use of research which all helped in the future and in other classes. This department also sponsored the Drama Club. For the first time, college courses were offered at this school Many of the seniors took advantage of the English courses: English Composition and speech from Purdue University. Mr. Kinnett taught the classes. 11 rare sight ... a whole cl ass studying.
