On that day, a ceremony witnessed by some 350 persons saw the grandwopening of the Cornerstone Box which had lain in its appropriate position in the Prep Building since August 19, 1885. It was recovered during the sum- mer of 1972 when the Prep Building was Demolished. The Box contained such prominent items as the bill setting forth the es- tablishment of The School of Mines, copies of the Rapid City Republican and The Black Hills Weekly Journal, a small bar of tin from the Etta Nline at Keystone, and a small lump of coal from Buffalo Gap. Also contained in the Box were various advertisements and an assortment of coins. These items have been placed on dis- play at the Alumni Office in Surbeck Center. Y-.,-.,V..-C- -......-- YY - ,Y YY New Head Coach Mike Riley, coached a talented roundball team to Co-Championship in SDIC. In District 12 playoffs Tech soundly defeated co-champions Huron by a score of 93-81 to win a .berth in NAIA 'playoffs in Kansas City. This was a first ,for the Tech team, but hopefully not the last Tech was beaten by a large, well disciplined ball con- trol teamp Westmont College of Santa Barbara, California. Westmont's domination of boards along with Techs tough luck from the field, lead to Westmont's victory. Indications point to the fact that another trip to Kansas City might be better. Maybe next year when, as Coach Riley says, We'll be decent. 4 J - , , 159 Wresflin 1 -1 --:. 4. I F, ,I . I 4 A f l il fi flardrocker Wrestlers lmve winning season Although the Hardrockerswere in a building stage, under the dual reins of Gary Boner and John Sterner, several top lettermen and some fine new prospects add up to Tech's best season. Tech's 7-6 record gave the grapplers their first winning season since 1966, when Tech had an identical score. So this ties Tech's best effort. Wins in- cluded three over Black Hills State, a first in the history of Tech wrestling. Members of the 72-73 team are: Front Left to Flight: Larry Cooper, Lee Erdman, Tim Kuhl, Rich Chancellor, Chip Story, and Jerald Dickey. Second row: Mark Kenner, John Nlattox, Craig Knock, Steve Kirk, Steve Erdman, Neil Petters, and Coach John Sterner. In fbxr D l l , A K 4 ,L-.111-7111s .N - ....
