H ardrocker Football The' 1971-72 football team lived up to some of its boasts andiwere stunned ijn some of. their expecta- tions. The team felt they would have anioverpower- ing defense, which they proved itrue in -giving up an average of 56 yards rushing and less than 1'00,yards passing per conferencelgame. However,,wh,ile the de- fense allowed only 8i points per game leverage all gamesl, the offense could only muster 6.5 points against its op'po'n'ents' defenses. The tea'm's finalre- cord of 3-4-1 included suspenseful triumphs over Black Hills and Dakota State and shocking upsetslby Huron and the University at Springfield. The team was coached by Gary Boner lrightl, assisted by Daryll King and'Eugene lSonnyl Coyle.
