S.A.M.E. The Society ot American Military Engineers was organized because oi a serious need for an as- sociation between the military and civilian engineer. It has over 28,000 members throughout the world. These include members who are students in 62 colleges and universities in the U.S. Its pur- pose is to promote professionalism among the students of military science here so that they may better serve as engineer officers. All students enrolled in ROTC in this school are eligible to be members ot the organization. 112 r-4' Scabbard cmd Blade is a national military honor society with local chapters, called companies, located in 131 leading colleges which have ROTC programs. The chapter at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology is des- ignated as Company F, l2tl1 Regiment. The purposes of S. 6: B. are primarily to raise the standard of military edu- cation American colleges and universities, to encourage and foster the essential qualities of good and efficient of- ficers, and to promote friendship and good fellowship among the cadet officers. Membership is by election only and is based upon merit. All cadets taking advanced ROTC are eligible for elec- tion to S. 81 B.
