The South Dade Rebels began the 1967 Football season with a victory over the North Miami Pioneers, 14-13. The Rebels were impressive in their first outing by gaining over 300 yards by passing and running. The highlight of the game was the 78 yard touchdown by Quarterback Randy IVlclVlichael. The second game ofthe season brought the Rebels their only defeat ofthe 1967 grid campaign as the Coral Park Rams edged by South Dade, 12-7. For the Rebels, all was in the name of revenge, but South Dade's earnest effort proved fruitless and the Rams recorded their third straight victory over the Rebs. Standing one and one for the season, the Rebels met the Columbus Explorers at Central Stadium.Comingfrom behind a 13 point deficit at the half, the Rebels battled to settle for a 13-13 tie with the Explorers. An estimated 3,000 fans witnessed the Rebel's home opener as Quarterback Randy Mc- Michael scored three South Dade touchdowns to lead the Rebels to their second victory of the season by defeating the Curley Knights, 27-7. The Miami Springs Hawks were the Rebel's next victims as the South Dade offensive unit took to the air to score on a spectacular 30 yard touchdown pass from McMichael to End John Mervine. Scisco and McMichael also scored for the Rebels to secure the victory. An accurate offense and a savage defense proved to be the winning combination for South Dade as the Rebels defeated the MacArthur Mustangs, 27-6, in Hollywood. The victory was a milestone for the Rebels who ousted the tenth ranked Mustangs from the unbeaten ranks. South Dade raised its record to 4-1-1 with the victory.
