Southernaire Staff The yearbook staff is composed of South Dade students who have shown a strong interest and talent in some phase of Journalism. These staff members are screened from a large number of applicants each year and are chosen for their talents and their interests. Most of the year is spent in meeting dead- lines for the final delivery on Class Night of The Southernaire. This represents the largest, most involved single undertaking of any group of students at South Dade. Laurie Love, Bob Lynn-Co-Editors In addition to publishing The Southernaire, this same staff produces in conjunction with Quill and Scroll members the school literary magazine, Potpourri. Staff members spend at least one period a day working toward the completion of the book, but a great many more hours are spent after school in selling ads, taking pictures, writing copy, arranging copy for mailing, proof reading, composing pages arranging picture appointments, selling annuals, delivering annuals, and selling plastic covers. The Editors are responsible for seeing that all the myriad cogs of production work to meet a deadline. The Business Manager is responsible for sales, ads and a very inflexible budget. The Advertising Manager, through sales of ads, is able to see that the South Dade student gets a book that costs a great deal more to produce than he pays. Those students around the halls of South Dade who always seem to be in a hurry, who always are busy, who climb around the buildings taking pictures, and who hound students, faculty, and administration for added information, are generally Southernafre staff members. They're apt to have dark circles under their eyes, or mis-matched socks, hands smeared with carbon and a hungry look because they missed lunch. Merry June Senterfitt, Wendy Hayden, Mike Gaff, Bobby Vihlen, Cindi Toraya, George Raum, Janet Reeves, Cathy Sullivan, Bob Lynn, Laurie Love, Betsy Puncke, Carolyn Crater, Susan Thompson, Melissa Houtte, Linda Meyer, Chris Conley, Libby Cool, Leasa Hodson. 81
