Teens in Politics The Teens in Politics Club is composed of students who wish to further their study of our democratic system of government. They study the principles of government and, in doing so, prepare themselves to take an active part as responsible citizens of the nation. The club meets twice a month and has varied programs. Many heated debates were carried on under such topics as Civil Disobedience, the Vietnam Crisis, and Capital Punishment. Through these debates, each member was able to participate while at the same time broaden his views and opinions on many subjects. Letterman's Club The Letterman's Club is comprised of a group of students who have lettered in any of South Dade's numerous varsity sports. In order to obtain membership in this elite club, one must have participated and excelled in either varsity football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis, swimming, bowling, or golf, and must have the approval of Coach Leo Martin, sponsor of the club. Since athletic letters are awarded only for superior achievement, membership in the Letterman's Club is an honor. The club has helped unite the active participants of each varsity sport into one organization with one definite purpose . . . that of improving the school through sportsmanship. Each member learns to perfect himself as an athlete as well as to exemplify the qualities of fine sportsmanship and fair play for the entire stu- dent body. He Iearns to cooperate with team members and to become a more valuable part of the athletic program as well as the student body. This year, the Letterman's Club was the successful factor in the Bill Burdick Fund, these athletes senling as the fund collectors. Mrs. Kitzman Sponsor Students enjoy the Halloween Freak Out. Art Club The Art Club, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Barbara Kitzman, is a creative group of students who are interested in practical application of their creative talents. The Art Club is open only to students taking art and hold its meetings every Wednesday night. Among the clubs activities are bake sales, the selling of South Dade pennants, and the successful sock hop, the Halloween Freak Out.
