Future Teachers of America The strength and well-being of a nation depends greatly upon, its educational system. The Future Teachers of America, as chartered through the Florida and National Educational Associa- tion, has attempted to increase the interest of students in secondary and elementary school teaching. They are learning the fundamentals of teaching today to become the efficient teacher of tomorrow. The South Dade Chapter of F.T.A., sponsored by Mrs. Grace Wolfenbarger, is open to those students interested in the teaching profession. The purpose of the club is to gain a better understanding of the functions and duties of a teacher. Some of the activities of this organization are bake sales, a Teacher's Tea,football magazine sales, the State Convention in Clearwater, Student Teacher Day, and teaching at local elementary schools. Future Homemakers of America The Future Homemakers of America are a group of girls who are interested in extending their knowledge in the many fields of Home Economics. The main purpose of this club is to raise money for the needed extra appliances, books and visual aids for the Home Economics Department. lt also strives to give the girls worthy experience in homemaking. To uphold its objectives, this year's club sponsored a Christmas bake sale, a cook book sale, and entered a float in the Homecoming Parade. These talented girls also co-sponsored the Faculty Christmas Party with the Student Council. Their many activities and the desire to master the techniques of good family life, have molded these F.H.A. members into successful, efficient, and con- scientious homemakers of tomorrow. E i Playmakers Playmakers consist of all drama students who wish to study the many aspects of the theater. Under the direction of lVlr. David Kross, the dramatic arts have become interesting and exciting to all students at South Dade. The history of the theater from Ancient Greece to lVIodern America as well as the works of various playvvrights are studied in the course. Students not only receive training an acting and directing but are also exposed to the technical fields of scenery, costuming, make-up, and lighting. A dramatic production at South Dade requires careful detailed planning by the director, dependability on behalf of the entire cast and stage managers, and an overall willingness to spend numerous hours at rehearsal. Students learn to work with other people in striving for an outstanding dramatic production.
