National Honor Society Students who maintain the academic average of 3.5 for three consecutive semesters are eligible for membership in the Na- tional Honor Society. Aside from scholastic excellence, the stu- dents' high school career must reflect evidence of Leadership, Character, and Service. Under the co-sponsorship of Mrs. Lou Huggins and Mrs. Julia DeMilly, the South Dade Chapter of The National Honor Society holds the distinction of being the oldest club at South Dade, having been established in 1953. The Society acts as school historian by collecting all issues of The Southernaire. One of the largest projects of this club is its tutorial service. I NATIONAL HONOR SOC ETY ,ff . Student Council The Student Council is the focal point from which all of our high school activities radiate. This organization assists the faculty and administration in their daily operation and in addition coordinates most extracurricular activities. The Stu- dent Council enables the students to apply their qualities of leadership and service for the overall betterment of South Dade High School. Representatives are given an opportunity to explore the rewarding area of student government and very often contribute to the establishment of school tradition and reputation. This year the events sponsored by the Student Council were most memorable and rewarding. A successful Sophomore Orientation program started the year off right and paved the way for successful projects such as bookcovers, Identification Cards, and Student Directories. The Student Christmas Party, complete with a live band and refreshments, was a first for the 1967-68 Student Council. The Student Council established the milestone of a financially and socially successful lVlid-Term Ball. The Officers, Senate, Cabinet and Legislature functioned under the efforts of lVlr.
