4 Fine and Applied Arts An Expression of The Applied AYTS. Sh0D, graphics, homemaking, and agriculture, prepare students for jobs in industry and business and provide opportunity for the application of learning in daily life. ln the workshop,boys work with hand tools and power machinery to make projects designed to develop and teach skills and trades. The course rests strongly on creative and practical abilities. Activities in Graphics include mechanical and architectural drafting and learning to use the printing press. Girls in Homemaking acquire proficiency in cooking, sewing, homemaking, child care, and grooming. Home Economics ll includes courses in textiles, clothing, and interior decorating. The Agriculture Department, base for the bean pickers, offers supervised training in animal and crop enterprises, forestry, farm mechanics, and farm management. The Fine Arts includes Band, Chorus, Art, and Drama and seek to develop natural talents and enrich the students' cultural aspect of life. Band and chorus strive to develop cooperative spirit both in group enthusiasm and music interpretation. The serious music student practices daily and strives to obtain perfection in tone quality, intonation, and rhythm. Art classes, under the direction of Nlrs. Kitzman, explore the wonderful world of paintings, and architecture. They experiment with color, line, and texture and learn to appreciate the beauty of art expression. Students in drama carefully examine various plays and the development of many characters. IVlr. Kross, dedicated to the Drama department, teaches the fundamentals of acting and the theater. 34
