Language Arts- A Road To Better Understanding Elaine Stokes The Language Arts Department, English, Foreign languages, and Journalism, seeks to increase the students' ability in the four basic Communication skills-writing, speaking, reading, and listening. Our English Department consists of English, Honors English 11 and 12, Skills Lab, Contemporary Literature, and Accelerated Reading. Writing with logic and perception, vocabulary development,advanced composition techniques, critical thinking and creative writing are taught in Honors English. Accelerated reading is a course for students who want to develop creative thought and appreciation through improvement of reading skills. The Foreign Language Department offers courses in French, Latin, and Spanish. Students not only learn Hola Isabell Como estas?, but study tradition, customs, and history of the people. Journalism classes include working on the newspaper staff or on the annual staff. David Camper
