MH Debbie Callahan HOIVIECOIVIING 1967 Into each life some rain must fall. Groans of dismay came from the stands as the rain pelted down. While the band members formed a line down the field, looks of disbelief passed among them as mud oozed into their shoes. But the band marched on . . The whistle blew and the Mighty Rebels engaged in a valient battle against Key West. ln spite of soaked jerseys, muddy spikes and scarred turf the game went on, right on to a victory over the Conchs, 27 - 6. Then it was halftime and the rain stopped. The umbrellas were momentarily tucked away and the wet but lovely court emerged, spirits undampened. With radiant faces they made the traditional procession across the soggy field, and the court smiled on . . . Once again umbrellas became the order ofthe evening as South Dade's Homecoming Queen, vivacious Joan Szymanski, along with forty other couples attended the Southern Ball given in the Queen's honor. The excitement of winning the game, the crowded floor, and the raucous music all whirled together to form an unforgettable evening, and the dance went on . . . Into each life some rain must fall, and that it did. 124 li , i p , Q .M aj, Q41 y 5 1 , ,f James Accursio gains yardage

WHO REBEL5 Crowd displays colorful spirit. 126 A panorama of color, people, excitement, and spirit moved to the traditional battleground. Spreading through the stands was a contagious air of suspense. Each Rebel knew that THAT morning seven years of disappointment would come to an end. Confident Palmetto fans seemed to lose all spirit and all hopes of winning as our boys gained more and more yardage. What a Day! That wonderful, sunny, hot day when crowd, coaches, and team joined together to create the greatest event of the year. Balloons filled the air to announce our victory 21 to 7 over the Panthers.
