It's made up of the people That touch us in such very special ways, Of books and paintings, Rocks and sand and great salty seas. Life is made up of those things that Fill us with love Or change our thoughts and attitudes. Life is made up of Learning in many different ways, Of picnics and parties and silent hours spent at home, Of walking hand in hand Under blue moonlit stars, Falling in love, And a few wellshed tears. It consists of being frightened at times, And saying goodbye once in a while. And living in the presence of Death. But most of all, Life is made up of those treasured moments Thar were somehow more special than any other, And, at the end of the road, Those special memories Will be what made life Worth living. The fourth annual Mayfair, held by the Senior College Prep. English Classes, was a replica of The Great Exhib- ition of 1851. The Commons was transformed into the Crystal Palace, and the outside was turned into London Street, with booths in both areas. There were many activities during the two hour fair. Tennis, musical scenes from the play Oliver, a circus complete with clowns, weight lifters, a snake charmer, and siamese twins, and two riots kept the action going. One popular booth was Scotland Yard, where a person could have someone arrested and put into jail Cfor a small fee, of courselj The afternoon climaxed with the coronation of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and their coronation dance. Mary Ackenhusen was crowned Queen Victoria, with Francy Rawlins, Bev Ratliff, and Kim Baughman in her court. Tim McC1ung was named Prince Albert, and his lords were Dave Long, David Woodall, and Clay Christian. Mary Ackenhusen is crowned Queen Victoria. Does your husband know about this, Mrs. Minskcr? It was a gratifying year for a team that wasn't supposed to go far. The highlight of the season was, without a doubt, the victory over GW. SC hadn't beaten GW since 1972. A most touching moment occurred in the final game at Dunbar when Robert Alexander closed out his amazing career. QUE PASA? SCHS is very proud of the Spanish club, one of our largest organizations. This club is known throughout Kanawha County for its fiestas ani Spanish dancers, who have performed at schools and on television. i Some of the Spanish students who are in Spanish III teach Spanish to Sth and 6th graders at near-by elementary schools. Also, sophomore Sandy Kiser, has been accepted by the International Fellowship Inc. to become a foreign exchange student to Columbia. What a super club and our thanks goes to Senoras Forbes and Koehnl WH T'SI-I PPENIN' Maria entertains our students One of the biggest surprises Antonio Valensuela had for the South Charleston students was his ability to speak English. Antonio is from Monterrey, Mexico where his parents insisted he attend an English- speaking school. Antonio helps Mrs. Forbes l with second year Spanish classes. While attending South Charleston Antonio has taken the following classes: Math Analysis, World Cultures, Grammar Review, Gym, English, and IMC. His main reasons for coming to the United States are to perfect his English and to travel. Our exchange student A typical Spanish dance Our Amity Aides l The dance of the Little Old Men The Amity Institute is a program different from our foreign exchange program. The Institute sends to American schools foreign students as teacher-aides. Our Amity Aide, Maria de Carmen Compan, is a lawyer in Vera Cruz, Mexico. She helps Mrs. Forbes and Mrs. Koehn in their Spanish classes. Marina Molano, from Columbia, is staying with her brother who outh Charleston. Even though she did not come to us through I the Amity Program, she is serving as a teacher-aide and is also lives in S improving her English. I've labeled many others as snobs and creeps and such When I don't even talk to them or get to know them much. I'm afraid to make the first move to smile or say Hello, Afraid of getting a stare in return or stoney silence to make my pride burn. I wish I didn't seem quite so cold on the outside.
