HIGHLIGHTS Although South Charleston was picked to win this game the breaks seemed to be against them as Clendenin held the Eagles to a tie game. Michaux made the Eagle touchdown in the first half and with seconds remaining in the last quarter, Butcher passed to Sibold in the end zone but the ball was intercepted and the game ended in a deadlock. South Charleston managed two touchdowns against an un- beaten Barboursville eleven but it was to no avail. Playing an a muddy field, John Steele recovered a fumbled punt to set up the first score. A sixty five yard march with Shike Keene going the final five yards added the second. An inspired Eagle team took their first win at the expense of St. Albans in a thrilling fight to the finish. Extra points and John Scott's action in re- covering a fumble saved the game. Eddie Butcher accounted for two touch- downs and passed to Bob Sibold for a third. The additional one was made by Shike Keene. Michaux spearheaded the attack against the fighting lrish by scor- ing both of South Charleston's touchdowns. One resulting from a forty yard pass from Bob Sibold, the other on a thirteen yard run. Keene converted for the extra point. The Black Eagles' upset over Dunbar came as no surprise to the fans. South Charleston held a l3-O lead until the Bull- dogs finally scored in the final period. More than once the Eagles' defense had to ward off a Dunbar rally. Early in the second quarter Butcher went over on a one-inch sneak after Michaux buffered to the goal line. Dennis Osborne gave a thrilling performance when he scooped up a Bulldog fumble and ran forty-four .yards to score. The Eagles started weak and finished strong, win- ning their last three games. Our last game enabled us to retain the Lion's Club trophy. Every Black Eagle fan can say, We're proud of you.

FOOTBALL South Charleston s 3 6 l season brought many tears and shouts of joy to the hearts of those people who follow the game. In our starting game of the season the Dupont Panthers edged by in a hard fought thriller. Michoux, Combs, and Fenwick led the Black Eagles' scoring attack, During the first two minutes of action both teams scored, South Charleston, when Michoux scampered 77 yards on a re- turn kickoff. The Black Eagles while playing one of their best games of the year were outscored, but not outplayed, by the Charleston Mountain Lions. Late in the first quarter South Charleston scored on an eleven yard run by Michoux and held a one point lead until Charleston scored late in the fourth quarter. The combined efforts of H. B. Darrell Gibson and F. B. Marshall Reveal proved to be too much for the South Charleston eleven, as they lost to the Nitro Wildcats, Our touchdown came with only one minute and ten seconds remaining in the game as Bob Sibold scored on a twenty two yard pass from quarterback Eddie Butcher. In the game with Sissonville, the Eagles scored on the final quarter when quarterback Dave Combs sneaked over from the two yard line, Shike Keene then converted for the extra point. However, the Sissonville opposition was too much and with only one minute left to play they pushed across for a touchdown. lt just wasn't the Eagles' night for they were no match for the Stonewall Jackson Generals. Many injuries impaired the Eagles as quarter- back David Combs and halfback John Fen wick were taken out early in the game. South Charleston scored early in the second quarter after Dick Tully re- covered a fumble, and Butcher, a few seconds later plunged the remaining yards,
