Senwfw 70: feacew These boys and gurls of the GRADU ATING CLASS of 1956 during their four years of hugh school have shown a record of exce Iency un scholarship effective par tic patucn in school actuvutues and a whole some cuxuc attitude These few along with many others have made thus THE SENIOR CLASS of 1956 an outstanding one In June of 1955 South Charleston sent five gurls to Girls State MARY BRADLEY PENNY ZIMMERMAN NANCY SIGMAN PAT COLLISON and RAE ALLEN T Boys State were sent JOE MULLEN and EDWARD DENISON PENNY ZIMMER MAN was selected to represent West Vur gunua at Girls Nation We certainly con suder ut an honor that a gurl from S C H S wa chosen to represent West Vurgunua at thus Nat anal Convention un Washington Councils held their meeting un Columbia South Carolina un 1955 EDWARD DEN ISON ERNIE HOLMBOE and JIM WAD DELL attended PENNY ZIMMERMAN at tended the convention when ut was held un 1954 in Jackson Mussussuppu PAULINE FOX and ERNIE HOLMBOE so nt a week at Camp Horseshoe a Youth Leadership Camp The SENIOR CLASS of 1956 won Pep Week when they were Juniors Our entry un the Miss Flame Queen contest was stunning CAROLYN THABET a black haired beauty who captured thurd place In November 1955 the selectuon of Miss Black Eagle was made Pretty talented RAMONA HOTT reigned as our homecoming queen Her lovely attendants were LUANA BOWEN and CAROLYN THABET In 1953 PENNY ZIMMERMAN won recognition for South Charleston Hugh School by placing second un the Miss Ka nawha County Mauorette contest FLORENCE SUTTON PAULINE FOX ROCHELLE DEHAINAUT and ALICE FIELDS sp nt a pleasant weekend at Jack s n s Mull attending a Y Teen Conference In December came the Snow Festival and the crowning of our charming Snow Queen FLORENCE SUTTON Attending her were BARBARA OXLEY and CAROLYN THABET JOE MULLEN was elected President of the West Vurgunua Junior Classical League un I 55 The Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Awards were presented to two of our stu dents ERNIE HOLMBOE and JOANNE HUNNESHAGEN The Daughters of the American Revolu pres nted to JOE MULLEN November 8 and 9 were bug days for RHEMA SUE HAMMER KAY DAVISSON and CAROLYN PRICE These gurls took turst second and thurd places respectively un the annual sewung contest Thus year the SOUTH CHARLESTON HIGH SCHOOL BAND traveled to Morgan town as guests of West Vurgunua Unuversuty un connectuon with the West Vurgunua Music Assocuatuon meeting JIM SMITH TOM ADKINS ELVIN HUGHES RAY WILSON BUDDY HALL FRANK HANSHAW DAVID OXLEY PAUL HARTMAN KELLY GRIFFITH CHARLES ADKINS JIM WILKINSON HERBY JARRETT BEN TELFORD RALPH COTTRELL and EARL GRINSTEAD have during their four years un hugh school done much to add to the success of our football and basketball teams More honors and scholarships wull be presented to the members of the SENIOR CLASS upon graduatuon uuuu wif Q f I 1 ' I ' , 1 1 ' 1 I X. v I .
