Students throughout the year have shown that the experience of the 70’s has enabled them to meet the challenge of the 80’s. The Orbit Club recorded the school year of ’79-’80 for you as It happened the beglinnlng of a new decade 3 STUDENT SENATE MEMBERS: Mr. Cllndanlel, sponsor; Eric Wall, Pres.; Tim Brust, V. Pros.; Kim Schultz, Sec.; Art Mlxls, Treas.; Jay Deerlng, 9th; Krisan Butfo, 10th; Jack Carter, 7th; Theresa Utroskl, 10th; Daryl Isemlnger, 10th; Nathan Howell, 11th; Bob Fryer, 12th; Wayne Whltacre, 9th; Danelle Aim, 8th; Tammy Myers, 7th; Terl Goad, 9th. 4 The National Honor Society sponsored the Snow Queen ceremony. Bob Fryer and Linda Sherwood, representing NHS, were crowned king and queen. Annual Swap Day with Westville was held during March 19 and 20. Thirty-one members of the National Honor Society took a two day trip to Michigan In April. They toured both the Henry Ford and Greenfield Village Museums. NEW INDUCTEES: Dawn Lute, Jackl Hostetler, Lucille Walnscott, Saun Damm, Tim Brust, Na- Pattl Erwin, Laurie Bunton, Susan Huhnke, than Howell, Dan Utroske, Dennis Weiss, Deb Myers, Christy Oiling, Dagmar Roman, Judy Ward, and Kim Schultz. The Spanish Club sold candles and sponsored a trip to Marrlots. The German Club traveled to South Bend to see a German folk and dance show. They also enjoyed a German meal at Hans House. 6 The FEA is made up of students that participate as aides for teachers. Their main project was to Introduce the sixth graders to the high school. Mrs. Grleger is the sponsor. The FHA sponsored a trip to Water Tower Place and also had various community service projects. A Mother- Daughter Banquet was held and clothes were modeled from the Village Scene by members. Mrs. Burge Is the sponsor. Health Careers consists of students Interested In the medical profession. They held activities such as: A Tootsie Roll Campaign for the Kidney Foundation; physical therapy for a handicapped child; and they operated a coat check at home basketball games. Danny Lute, Sr. Class Pres., responded. Music was provided by “Street Level.” Bob Fryer and Jackie Hostetler were crowned king and queen and the prince and princess were Todd Kowalski and Jamie Pipes. The movie Every Which Way But Loose” was shown and everyone returned to the Holiday Inn tor breakfast and were entertained by hypnotist, Ellis E. Swiehart. 40 1979 Homecoming This year’s Homecoming was held on Saturday, September 29 at 2:00 in the afternoon. To get the SC students fired up for the big game an hour pep session was held on Friday. Each class constructed a float under the theme of the Wizard of Oz.” During half time of the game, the Freshmen class float was announced the winner of the contest. This year Jack! Hostetler was crowned the 1979 Homecoming Queen. SECTIONAL QUALIFIERS: In the field events were, Brian Warne with the pole vault and Tom Utroske, high Jumping. In the running events were, Dan Utroske In the 800 M run and Eric Wall In the 100 and 200 M dashes. Mike Vick ran the 300 M low hurdles and went to reglonals for the 110 M high hurdles. The 400 M relay team of Warne, Wall, Vick and Jay Deering also made a showing In sectional competition. 121 This year’s baseball team broke the old school record of most wins during a season by setting the new record at 20 wins. In sectional play the team made it to the semifinals, but the they were ousted by M.C. Rogers 13-6. One of the highlights during the season was the naming of senior Bob Fryer as Athlete of the Week by the South Bend Tribune.
