UNIVERSAL GYM MECH IE FLOOR PARKING ORBIT 17 SOUTH CENTRAL SCHOOL UNION MILLS INDIANA DEDICATION On April 8, 1979 at 2 p.m. the addition to South Central Jr. Sr. High School was dedicated. After remarks by several present and past school board members, the main address ' 'Challenge for the Years Ahead'' was given by Dr. Wendell J. Peterson. Cole Associates, Inc. presented the building to Mr. A. Gamer, Pres, of the School Board, who in turn presented the key to Mr. G. Knorr, Principal of South Central Jr. Sr. High School. Entertainment for the occasion was proveded by the high school swing choir under the direction of Miss A. Rush, as well as several numbers played by the high school concert band directed by Mr. D. Fleming. The original building was occupied in 1965, the Fair-Sanders addition was added to the Elementary School in 1971, and now in 1979 the addition to the high school was completed. The new art rooms feature two store rooms, a separate firing room for the kiln, a spray booth, and a damp room. The new tables are large for weaving and drawing projects. One-half of the main art room is for sculptural crafts. Mrs. Wallace teaches all Art classes. 4 The science facilities have grown to meet the needs of more interested students by adding three new rooms: a dark room, physics room, and a science prep area. The addition is very beneficial to students at SC, as well as teachers Mr. Baker and Mr. Fleck, who is also Sth grade sponsor. 6 Home Economics Department The Home Economics Department has greatly expanded with a family living room and a sewing room which is equipped with 18 new Viking machines. A dining table, a china hutch, and living room furniture complete the family living area. The old Home Economics room was remodled with all new facilities including a Micro Wave oven and a dishwasher. Mrs. Burge is the Home Economics teacher. Industrial Arts Department The Industrial Arts has expanded with a new metal shop equipped with lathes, surface grinder, acetylene welders, arc welders, with ventilated hoods, vertical and horizontal milling machines, radial drill press, tool grinders, metal band saw, and dry blasting machines. Spanish, German And French Clubs This year Spanish was a new foreign language course, taking the place of French. The Spanish Club, sponsored by Miss Wood, began earning money by picking apples at Anderson Orchards. They had a booth at the PTA Carnival with pinatas. Mrs. Lucas and the members of German Club enjoyed the Stratton Mt. Boys' folk songs and folk dances last fall in Chicago. They sponsored the jail at the PTA Carnival. The French Club was still active this year and went as a group to dinner at Bon Appetit in Crown Point, Mrs. Lucas sponsored 7th grade and also taught Social Studies classes; and Miss Wood sponsored 9th, and taught freshman English. 11 Social Studies Department The Social Studies Department has been moved to the new addition.
