The Music Man , a musical comedy, was presented by the drama department. It centered around a conniving band instru- ment salesman, who was out to prove to the people of River City, including the librar- ian, Marian Peru, that the town was in terrible, terrible trouble and that it needed a boys' band before it was too late. Familiar musical numbers such as Seventy -Six Trombones and Ya Got Trouble , captivated an attentive audience. They also sold ice cream dur- ing the lunch hours to raise money for a scholarship. In the spring, sixteen new members were inducted into the N. H. S. Chess Club Check mate! This was the first year that South Central had 21 Chess Club. It was under the direction of Mr. Mark Potzrebow- ski. They Challenged Chess teams from M. C. Elston, New Prairie, La- Lumiere, LaCrosse and LaPorte and ended their season with a 3-7 record. Morning 1. C. NOT PIC- TURED: Rob Thulmunn 4nd Chris Carson. German 8L French Clubs The GERMAN CLUB took a trip to Chicago where they ate in a German restaurant, shopped in a German Bakery and delicatessen. They also celebrated an Oktoberfest. In the spring they challenged the FRENCH CLUB to a soc- cer match. The HEALTH CAREERS, tABOVEy was sponsored by Mrs. Lucy Heironimus, and the FHA, was spon- sored by Mrs. Avis Burge. Both clubs increased in size greatly this year. The HEALTH CAREERS were in charge of the coat check at all home basketball games. Proceeds were used to give a scholarship to a student interested in a medical-related career. Under the direction of Mrs. Fran Milo, the choirs sang at several concerts and performed in convocations here at school. Band Flies to Florida It all began with the sale of 3,000 cases of Texas fruit and a lot of hard work and ended up on Main Street U. S. A. in Dis- ney World, Florida. Taking advantage of sights along the way, musicians also Visited Kennedy Space Center and Sea World. The S. C. High School Band was proud to bring home a tro- phy presented to them at the awards banquet following their performance in the Orlando Music Festival at Florida Southern College. The entire week's trip to Florida was a first and al- though the suntans have faded, memories of palm trees, swimming pools, and the blazing sun will remain vivid. lul L Int ernational Musi c Festival Trophy Orbit Club Record Ad Sales Help ttColort, Seniors For the first time ever the yearbook has the entire senior section in full color. This was made possible through the extra efforts of those seniors who sold advertising, as well as extra help from the class treasury. Technical training for four staff members was received at the Culver Yearbook Workshop 111 August. Editor Pamela Peters, joined by Sue Hurni, Marla Lawrence, and Laurie Horst, par- ticipated in the four-day venture. They beat a tough Hanover Central team and an equally rough Marquette team 10 earn the championship trophy. An excellent basketball season end- ed with an 18-4 record. B-Team Basketball By beating Oregon Davis and a tough Hark over Central team, the B-Team went on to win the Junior Varsity Four-Way Invitational Tourney held at South Central.
