COURT SCHOOL BOARD John Dunk, Superintendent; Leonard Thalman, President; William Gamer, Member; Gene Bluhm, Vice-president; John Gardner, Secretary; Jim Smoker, Treasurer 10 SUPERINTENDENT Our frontier today in educa- tion is EACH CHILD - EACH ADULT - and the process is lifelong. Education and educa- tional values must project far beyond the regular nine month school year. Summer school learning has been quite valu- able to students and the pro- gram has been pleasant. Correspondence study offers many unique educational op- portunities for students and adults. In fact, correspon- dence courses are being used to enrich and supplement public schools and adult edu- cational programs. Now the nation is on the verge of an expansion of adult education on a scale beyond Descrip- tion or Comprehension. Since we have started an adult education program we offer all of these educational services and counsel to the student and adults of our community. We have the facilities and person- nel to provide educational ex- periences for both children and adults. Our school would like to serve YOU. John R. Dunk Superintendent 11 PRINCIPALS To die Graduating Class of 1967: I extend my sincerest wishes for a most successful future. You have received the highest quality of education and there- fore I feel confident you will have the courage to accept and meet the many problems that life has to offer. Much like manufactured prod- ucts which are produced to withstand the ravages of time, so must the human personality have the same capability. You have been prepared for this through your education and I feel assured you will focus on life in the proper prospective. Good Luck. Norbert Jankowski, Principal This has been an exciting year at South Central. Many of the things you 've accomplished during your high school years will long be remembered. It is therefore of great impor- tance that as you progress through life you continue to work at your maximum capability. Good luck for future accomplishments and may happiness be your possession. J. They made about $700 with the cooperation of every student. After the sale of magazines a pizza party was held by the representative from the company. The Juniors also had concessions at the football games and the basketball games throughout the year. The Juniors picked Jonyas Hall where the prom was held. After the dinner and dance they attended a movie entitled The Ad- ventures of Bullwhip Griffin . The movie ended about three o'clock and they came back to the school for a casual dance and breakfast served by the Junior class mothers. Another money making project was the selling of concessions at the band contest which was held April 8, 1967. Finians Rainbow was the spring play and they also sold concessions there. Our Class sponsors deserve a little appreciation for the help they have given us during the year. They include: bookkeeping, typing, short- hand, business math, business law, and office practice. Af- ter successful completion of these courses, a student has the opportunity of entering the field of business. SOCIAL STUDIES Social studies is one of the more valuable areas in the student's general education. Courses offered in social studies at South Central are American and World History, United States government, and sociology, as well as others. MATH Modern math is in its sec- ond successful year at South Central. It gives the students a greater under- standing of the number system and a strong foun- dation for further study in the mathematics field. Courses offered by this department are senior math, Algebra I and II, plane geometry, and other general mathematics classes. FOREIGN LANGUAGE In the French and German classes the students study the grammatical aspect of the language as well as the linguistic area. By studying the cultures of France and Germany in the respective classes, the students gain knowledge of, and insight into, the history of that country. 65 ENGLISH To communicate well with others, an understanding and knowledge of the English lan- guage is essential for all of us. South Central's English program includes many areas: public speaking, grammar, literature, spelling, and skits. HOME ECONOMIC9 Students in grades 7 through 12 are involved in the home economics de- partment at South Central. They study cooking, sew- ing, nutrition, child care, home management, and consumer buying. This year the program has be- come available to boys al- so and has proved to be an enjoyable course for them. INDUSTRIAL ARTS A student may study many areas of industrial arts at South Cen- tral: woods, metals, plastics, machines, welding, power mechanics, electronics and introductory hydraulics. Each student gains practical experi- ence in his own particular field. Through this classroom experi- ence he is able to choose the particular field of industrial arts that suits him best. MECHANICAL DRAWING Mechanical drawing is the study of basic drawing, introductory machines, and introductory drafting. In advance drafting the first semester is devoted to machine drafting and the second semester to architectural draw- ing. Students who complete study in mechanical drawing, gain a basic background in architecture, drafting, and engineering. D.C.E. Through participation in the D.C.E. (Diversified Cooper- ative Education) program, sixteen South Central students receive on-the-job work ex- perience in areas which inter- est them. These students, Ju- niors and Seniors, attend school half a day and work half a day in pursuit of voca- tional training. The program, which is in its first year at South Central, has steadily gained in size from 12 mem- bers in September, 1966, to 16 in May, 1967. Mr. Weso- lowski, the coordinator, ob- serves the students at their work stations and discusses problems with them that they encounter in their work. 70 Students in Agriculture I,II, III, and IV gain a general ed- ucation ranging from farming to advanced economics, and husbandry. Throughout the year students take interesting field trips which better pre- pare them for a future in farming or agriculture. AGRICULTURE President Evelyn Utroske Vice President Dennis Johnson Secretary Mary Clark Student Director Sharon Taylor The concert band has done an outstanding job of represent- ing our school in the past year. They have marched in parades and at basketball games, they play in concerts, and participated in contests. CONCERT DANCE CHORUS HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR HIGH LIBRARY COUNSELING The counseling department is di- vided into three main areas. Testing services allow the stu- dent to achieve a better under- standing of his achievements, aptitudes, and interests. Infor- mational services enable the stu- dent to further investigate his areas of interest. The most im- portant is the counseling service which gives the student an oppor- tunity to discuss matters that are important to him, whether they are of an educational or personal nature. 79 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIRST ROW: D. F.T.A. FUTURE TEACHERS The purpose of the Future Teach- ers of America is to introduce the students to the merits of the teaching profession. Members of the F. T. A. are given an oppor- tunity to participate in exploratory teaching. They help the elemen- tary teachers in their classrooms and experience actual classroom incidents which they may some- day encounter as teachers. F.H.A. Girls in grades 9 through 12 com- pose the Future Homemakers of America. The girls learn to pro- mote better family and commun- ity relations. They also gain valuable experience in homemak- ing and social planning.
