Carver, Debate Coachg Jean Bicicmore, President of the club: Elaine Ciawson, Vice-President, and Dorothy Xvoocl, Secretary, have planned and put over a successful tournament at which six schools attended anct participated, attended two actciitionai tourna- ments: the State Meet at the University of Utah, and the Regional Meet at the U. S. A. C.g cleverly presented a Wfaice It Or Leave lt Quiz Program, partici- patect in Sons of American Revoiutiony' Oratory Contest, and numerous other activities all to the benefit of the individual. They enclecl the regional season with lour wins, one toss, ancl one tie. The Spartans also garnered a I3-7 win over the Tooele eleven in a non- region encounter. The Spartans iirst region hattle pitteci them against Bear River ancl they came out victorious from this tray, 6-0. Thev then met Box Elder and received their only clefeat of the season. They were beaten 'll-O. Th Spartans went clown to Ogden. with puhlic opinion against them, but they emerged the victor 6-O in one of the season's.greatest upsets. Vvelzrer came up to South Cache and was trouncect 24-7 lay the hard-fighting Spartans. Xfvhen the Spartans played at Logan, they fought a nip-and-tuck battle which enclect in a 7-7 tie. The North Cache Bulldogs were beaten on the Spartanls home grounds 15-6 in the final game of the season. Asael Allen, Spartan hallrlaacic. won one of the halflnactc berths on the all- state team. Kenneth Maughan and Niarvin Abrams were both piacect on the all-region team. This is the best record the Spartans have set up in quite a long time. 50
