THIRD ROW-Bob Bunker, lack Leatham, Grant White, Plquilla Hllen . Merle Wilhelm, Ralph Maughan, Curtis Iessop, Merrill Green, Lynn Darley, Dale Nelson, Glen Iaclcson, Conley Watts. Football - l937 The football team of l937 had a very successful year. With the graduation of many outstanding players and the loss of Deb Young the prospects for another glorious year were very unfavorable. Yet, with the coming of Bob Bunker, the spirit of football returned. Fllthough Coach Bunker was new to the boys and to the school, many men reported for suits at the first call. I-lt the first game of the season, the Spartans metbitter defeat at the hands of the Boxelder Bees, with a score of 32-6. Yet they went down fighting and their courage never daunted. In the second game the Spartans returned with a display of splendid football and defeated Weber, 32-7. Logan High defeated South Cache for her first win of the season, 7-0, in what may truthfully be said an off-day for South Cache. South Cache lost her next game to the Bulldogs of North Cache, 12-Og but the following week she scalped the Indians of Preston, Z5-U. In the final game of the season, the Spartans lost to the champion, Bear River Bears, 14-U in what was the most thrilling game witnessed on the Hyrum field this year. -V . Individual honors went to Captain Merrill Green who stamped himself as one of the best backfield aces in the region. Lynn Darley, Ralph Maughan, and Gleave Welch were given honorable mention on the region team. -2g. ' 1

Tennis Frank Hansen, Vern Hnderson, Glen Maughan, Evan Baugh, Seth Maughan. Summary of Athletics TENNIS 1937-Last year South Cache won permanent possession of the Cordon trophy. It had been held two years by South Cache, one by Logan, and one by North Cache. 'this year South Cache and Logan each lost to each other and in the playoff the Spartans emerged victorious. 1938-This year the tennis team has three returning lettermen and is destined to go far. Mr. Randall succeeds Mr. Payne as tennis coach and tennis is expected to create much interest in the whole student body. TRHCK 1937-The track season for l937 was very successful. South Cache Won the Division Track meet and placed second COgden Win- ning firstl in the Regional Track rneet. In the State Relay Carnival held at Salt Lake, South Cache Won two first place trophies and set a record in the Shuttle Relay. The runners in the Inter-scholastic Medley Relay were Wallace Hllen, Bud Plnderson, Dale Nelson, and Melvin Huppie. The runners in the Shuttle heiay were Wallace 1-lilen, Hrchie Pyle, Dale Nelson, and Merrill Green. Ht the B. Y. U. Invitational, Dale Nelson placed first in the Class H 880 and Melvin Huppi second in the Class H mile. South Cache won the Medley Relay at the B. Y. U. with Wally, Hrchie, Dale and Melvin running. l938-This year the track team is not so well balanced as last, but with such a promising letterrnan, Captain Dale Nelson, some fast developing cindermen, and strong men in the field, South Cache hopes to promote a successful season. . 28 .

Basketball - I938 South Cache 41 Ianuary 7 Box Elder South Cache 33 Ianuary 14 Bear River South Cache 32 Ianuary 21 North Cache South Cache 27 Ianuary 28 Logan South Cache 24 February 4 Weber South Cache 41 February 8 Box Elder South Cache 29 February ll Bear River South Cache 41 February 18 North Cache South Cache 44 February 25 Logan South Cache 30 March 4 Weber For the second consecutive year South Cache has gained a birth in the State Basketball Tournament. Ht the end of this year, as in last, the Spartans were tied for second place, which necessitated a play-off. This year South Cache was defeated oy Weber, but were successful in downing South Rich, 43-22. In the State tournament South Cache was unable to get past the jinx and lost the first game to North Summit 57-39. In the next game the Spartans played flawless ball to down Carbon, 57-23. Glen, Evan, and Dale bombarded the basket for 48 points between them in this game, only to lose the next to Dixie, 43-42, and were dropped from the tournament. Evan Baugh was given an all-state selection by the Tribune and was placed on the official Pill-state second team in the Desert News. Glen Maughan and Dale Nelson were given honorable mention in Hll-state selections. . QU .
