BAND Our band received a distinctive honor this year by being the only band in the State of Utah to receive a charter to the National Band Hssociation. Sixteen outstanding members from the band were selected as members to the chapter and may be recognized by a national pin that was given them. The band has also been very active at the celebrations of the different towns and has been very loyal in supporting the football and basketball teams. .2g. 41' FIRST ROW-lla Larsen, Helen Nielsen, Venna Maughan, Yvonne Gill, Venice Wright, Zenith Gilgan, W. Plnderson - - Hdvisor Home Economics Club The Home Economics Club meets once each month to further the ideals of Homemaking. Ht each meeting some phase ot homemaking is the theme of the program. Hs tar as possible, the program is made up of members ot the club, only the speakers are guests. Such topics as vocations for women, personality, beauty culture, home reading, and home beautification have been discussed. Hn interesting fea- ture of the February meeting was valentine cookies made by the second year foods class. The H.E.C. and the F.l:'.l3l. sponsored the annual Harvest Ball. This year the autumn lead motif was carried out. Plpple cider and doughnuts proved a very popular feature, second only to the crowning ot the king and queen. Financially, this year's ball was the most successful ever held. The F.F.H. and H.E.C. held a joint Christmas party with presents and refreshments for all. The club plans to send a large delegation to the spring convention in Salt Lake City. I -22- '..'- jyvm' r. Football - l937 The football team of l937 had a very successful year. With the graduation of many outstanding players and the loss of Deb Young the prospects for another glorious year were very unfavorable. Yet, with the coming of Bob Bunker, the spirit of football returned. Fllthough Coach Bunker was new to the boys and to the school, many men reported for suits at the first call. I-lt the first game of the season, the Spartans metbitter defeat at the hands of the Boxelder Bees, with a score of 32-6. Yet they went down fighting and their courage never daunted. In the second game the Spartans returned with a display of splendid football and defeated Weber, 32-7. Logan High defeated South Cache for her first win of the season, 7-0, in what may truthfully be said an off-day for South Cache. South Cache lost her next game to the Bulldogs of North Cache, 12-Og but the following week she scalped the Indians of Preston, Z5-U. In the final game of the season, the Spartans lost to the champion, Bear River Bears, 14-U in what was the most thrilling game witnessed on the Hyrum field this year. -V . Individual honors went to Captain Merrill Green who stamped himself as one of the best backfield aces in the region. Lynn Darley, Ralph Maughan, and Gleave Welch were given honorable mention on the region team. -2g.
