There's many a path you may follow As you journey along Life's way, Some are crooked, some curved, some straight But at the end of each lies the goal, Which you'll reach some day. You've many a fault to conquer, You've many a battle to fight, But you'll never regret the effort, lf you choose the path, straight and right. You'll have to make your decisions, You'll have to choose your way, It's up to you whether false or true Will be the standards you display. Remember your body's the Temple Of the soul that God gave you, Keep that Temple shining and clean, Untarnished, unblemished, and true. Now you're leaving Broward High, Wanting your own wings to try, Aim high, soar far, Make your goal the highest star. Have ideals, to these be true, Is the wish we leave with you. 36 We, the Class of 1940, in the town of Dania, the County of Broward, cmd the State of Florida, being as mentally competent as possible, do hereby make and publish this as our last will and testament, rendering void and of no avail any former will or wills that may have been previously made by us during a period of temporary optimism. ITEM 1-We feel that we must mention the ones next to us in importance, our fellow Iunior Class. There is so much we want to leave you from our accomplish- ments and possessions. First, we leave our traits, namely, importance, self-satisfaction, wisdom, and arrogance. Second, we leave you our perfectly carved desks of the Senior Home Rooms, and the hard, dark, brown wads of gum that were placed under each desk so carefully. Third, we leave you our coveted right to solemnly, patiently, and silently enter the cafeteria first at lunch time. May these be of use as you enter the portals next year. ITEM 2-We, the Senior Class, without hesitation, hereby willingly leave these following things to the Soph- omores-who have not yet attained the wild and woolly ways of the Iuniors and Seniors. To you we give the peace and quiet that we have as- sumed at all times during the years of 1939-40. We also leave you our unlimited ability to raise money, our senior themes, our bossy ways, our paper wads, and our accurate aim for eraser throwing. ITEM 3-We, the Graduating Class, hereby instruct that these following things be willed without delay to the green Freshmen. We leave our beautiful, ex- otic photographs-especially those showing well-- fitted gowns and caps. We hope that when the time comes for you to take the leap you will have gained enough knowledge in the next year to expand your heads so that your graduating caps will fit better than ours. ITEM 4-We, the Intelligent Twelfth Grade of the South Broward High School, hereby leave to the Faculty of our beloved school all our deep knowledge-of which there is very little-our wonderful reasoning abilities, our splendid manners, our knack of chew- ing gum, our foolish but cute sense ot humor, our pointless jokes, and our puppy noon-time love. We also give and bequeath to the teachers our very kindest regards. ITEM 5 -We, the Girls and Boys of '40, leave to our unfor- gettable principal our tolerance for youth, and our appreciation for his many helpful lectures and per- sonal aids. ITEM 6-We, the Fans of the Houston classes, leave to Mr. ITEM 7 Houston our deepest appreciation for his contribu- tions to our classes and his inspirational teachings and moral guidance. V --The following prominent students of the Senior Class leave these traits to the students ot the Iunior Class. l. Lois Stanley and Marshall LaBree legally leave their excellent features to Audrey Milligan and Iames Hartley. 2. Honorable Anna Clissold and Iulius Sokolow hereby leave their intelligent minds to Florea Brown and Marvin Doliana. 3. Popular Mary Io Neal and Ador Amundson leave their popularity to Mercedes Zimmerman and August Kadow. 4. Best Dressed Doris Morford and Arthur Boggs leave their clean, neat clothes to Ioyce Orr and Nuts Milligan. 5. Friendly Mary Io Neal and Grant Wenkstern leave their winning smiles and cheerful greetings to Iackie Williams and Bob Mercer. 6. Cute little Dot Hansen and lim Cawood leave their clever ways to Eloise Laxson and Puny Ross. 7. The two most likely to succeed, Mary Io Neal and Iulius Sokolow, leave their abilities to Iua- nita Montgomery and Mason Wachstetter. 8. Talented Dot Hansen and Harold Sherron leave their talents to Isabell Maurer and Ralph Blakely. Finally, we do hereby name and appoint as the sole executors of this, our last will and testament, our class advisors, Miss Wethington and Mrs. Collier. glam The history of this class started with the very first day of -school in the fall of 1927. Our school was then called Dania High School, of which I'm sure the older students were justly proud. The first six years of our schooling were rather like clock- workg everything came on schedule. Each year was made more interesting by an operetta put on by the first six grades. Also every year the annual Tomato Day and County Fair were enjoyed by the students who were excused from school and admitted free. In the seventh grade we underwent a drastic change. We had four or more teachers to annoy rather than just one. We enjoyed the privilege of being allowed to go from one class to another. This year we were joined by our friends and neighbors from the south, Hallandale School. From this school came Mary Io Neal, president of the class 'in our Iunior and Sophomore years and awarded' Most Popular, Most Likely to Succeed, and Friendliest by the popularity contest this year, and Ador Arnund- son, president of the class this year and- awarded Most Popular by the popularity contest. Upon coming back to school in l935, we found that the name of our school had been changed from Dania High School to South Broward High School, which some of the students at first disliked but soon learned to like. Nothing very exciting happened in the eighth and ninth grades except that all this time tourists were coming in and going out of school: but we were very glad to have them, and some of them left such an outstanding record behind them that they will not soon be forgotten. In November of our eighth year we were interrupted by a hurri- cane which put our school out of commission for about two weeks. Although this gave us a vacation, it was not a very pleasant one for most of us. In our tenth year we were joined by Warren Watson, fresh from Texas, formerly of Hollywood, who was this year judged by the Southeastern Foot- ball Conference as All-Conference end. Also Alvin Blow of Dania was judged as an back. All-Conference In our junior year we annexed the tenth grade from Hollywood Central School, among whom came Fred Lane, who was this year judged the outstand- ing backfield man of the Conference. Our junior year was full of exciting happenin gs. During the year we had to raise money for the Iunior-Senior Prom and Banquet, which was done sponsorship of Mrs. Robinson and under the able Miss Hilsman. Our junior play, Billy, was a great success. In addition We sponsored a Football O a means of raising part of the neces the contest our own Lois Stanley rec of Football Queen. She was also vo senior by the popularity contest this ueen contest as sary money. In eived the honor ted the prettiest year. We gave the seniors their Prom and Banquet at the Holly- wood Beach Hotel as had been the custom for a few years. Also in our junior year, the following awards were received at the State Commercial Con- test at Leesburg: Second place, Shorthand I., by Dolly Cole, third place, Shorthand I., by Frances Smith, and honorable mention, Shorthand I., by Anna Clissold. Finally our senior year rolled ar ound, which, of course, was the most exciting of all our twelve years. It was hustle-bustle from beginning year a girls' and boys' glee club to end. In this was organized under the able direction of Mr. Bissel. The newly organized Key Club of last year was continued. Our first baseball team in a number of years was organ- ized under Mr. Crudup's leadershi p and made a very creditable record. Our. senior play was a rural comedy, Silas Smidge from Tumi Class Night play was Miss Senior Ridge. Our lass Weds Mr. Life of Service. I believe our senior year has been a great success with Miss Wethington and Mrs. Col- lier as our home room teachers and sponsors.
