FOOTBALL After a slow start and a loss to Hyde Park, South Boston Highs football team bounced back to six straight wins and a District Championship. The Scores were: Hyde Park-32 jamaica Plain-0 Bri ghton-8 Roslindale-10 Charlestown-O Roxbury Memorial-1 3 East Boston-0 South Boston South Boston South Boston South Boston- South Boston- South Boston- South Boston- South Boston also had the highest scoring team in the city. Three ot tht players were selected for the City All-Star Team: Captain joe Comfrey, an end fullbatk Dom Gentile who captured the city's scoring crowng and Bob Swirko, a great tatklt

Back Row: james Morris, Paul Flynn, Paul Wieners, joseph Greene, George Procida, Coach Callahan. South Boston High's basketball season opened on january 6, 1959. The league this year was a rough one, but our team emerged as District League Champs for the sixth straight year. We suffered our first loss against the fired-up scluad of Roslindale. It was a hard-fought, well- p ayed game. At the close of the game, the score was South Boston 65 and Roslindale 71. Southie entered into the Tech Tourney as an underdog, In their first game, they faced Saint Maryfs of Waltharn. Witlm a fine team effort, they captured the game 49 to 40. Next, they faced their District rival, Charles- town. The latter, seeking to avenge their two losses, turned in a fine team effort to subdue Southie 58 to 50. Members of the starting team were: Leo Ma- honey and Frank Welby QCO-captainsj joe Com- frey, Bob Nichols, and Dom Gentile. Other members of the squad were Carl Elledge, Paul Wieners, George Procedia, jim Rooney, jim Morris, Frank Joyce, Paul Flynn, and Joe Greene.
