CLASS HISTORY 59 It has been four years since we first entered the doors of SOUTH BOSTON HIGH SCHOOL. As freshmen we weren't too well known, but we soon made many new friends. Not only were the students friendly, but also the teachers. In 1956 our school won the Class B champion- ship in basketball, and our football team won the District Championship. Our sophomore and junior years were happy ones as we studied, played, and worked. In the summer of 1958, we lost our Head Master, Mr. Wilfred Kelley. He was a great man, and an outstanding leader, who gave his life to the young people of South Boston by seeking the best for them in this school. All of us will re- member him with gratitude. The summer went fast and on returning to school we could call ourselves seniors. We were very happy to welcome Mr. William T. Miller as SOUTH BOSTON HIGH SCHOOLS new Head Master. One of the first senior activities was the elec- tion of class officers. That really was fun! Hang- ing posters in class rooms and in the lunch room was exciting for all. Some seniors had their first experience at addressing an audience as they presented themselves to the class as candidates. After the election, the next big event was plan- ning for the senior promenade. Christmas came and went, but the seniors were still busy-getting their pictures taken, paying dues, and working on the year book. The February vacation was not a happy vaca- tion for either seniors or teachers. One of SOUTH BOSTON HIGH SCHOOLS greatest teachers Mr. Edward Scollins passed away. It was a great loss to the seniors because it was he who guided them with their activities. It was he who made sure that dues were paid, that pictures were taken, and the year book material was written. All these activities he carried on in addition to his teaching. just before Easter the spring fashion show was held, in which the girls modeled the beautiful clothes they made, With a japanese setting, the show turned out to be a success. Many thanks to Miss johnson and Miss Scena. Our Senior Prom, which was held at the Blue Hills Country Club, was the highlight of our four years. The memories of our Senior Prom will always be wonderful. On April 30 the death of Miss Mary Hickey stunned SOUTH BOSTON HIGH SCHOOL. Her loss to the senior class and to the school cannot be estimated, for she was a friend to all-a friend who would go out of her way to be helpful. Now, on our Class Day we, as Seniors, gather together to enjoy our final meeting before our all important day-GRADUATION.
