School Committee Members of School Board, left to right: Mr. Henry Sawyer, Mr. Cecil Horr, Mr. Stuart Chaplin To the Graduating Class: Commencement is an important milestone in your life, which marks the beginning of a new responsibility for each of you. As you become more independent, you become more re- sponsible for your own actions and deeds. Making your own decisions and accepting the responsibility for your successes or failures are marks of a mature person. As you venture along the path towards adulthood by accepting this new responsibility, and by embarking upon your chosen field with a zest, you are well on the way to becoming a mature, worthwhile citizen of today’s world. My heartiest congratulations on your graduation, and all best wishes for your future success. Superintendent of Schools GRAYSON A. HARTLEY EARLE A. COOPER - Is principal at South Berwick High - attended Farmington State Teachers College, University of Maine, and Syra cuse University and U.N.H. - received B.S. from University of Maine - formerly taught at Bangor, Bristol and Brooks - coaches cross country team TO THE STUDENTS OF SOUTH BERWICK HIGH SCHOOL All high school students should develop the capacity to think rationally; and with this capacity, an appreciation of the significance of truth arrived at by the rational process. Too often students are swayed by propaganda in many aspects of living and of taking action. Investigation into problems should be thorough and without prejudice or malice. Technology has made many advances In the last few years and will con- tinue to do so in the future. The only way that we will be able to use this technology and accomplishments is by being able to think rationally and to make the correct decisions. To this end man is master of his own destiny, within the limits imposed by nature. MRS. Eight monthly meetings were held at which programs were presented by the students and, in April, by an invited guest, Commander Herbert Knowles. Each meeting included, in addition to the main feature, the roll call an- swered in Latin, the flag salute in Latin, the sing- ing of Latin songs and the playing of Latin games. Attendance was open to any student currently taking Latin or who had taken Latin, and to be in good standing each member had to qualify by earning a certain number of points by service to the club. The officers of the year were Ann York, President; Eugene Sawyer, Vice President; Linda Lilly, Secretary and Treasurer; and Betsey Webster, Lybis (keeper of the scrapbook devoted to the activities of S. The Senior Class of South Berwick High School have set their seal to this last will and testament on the sacred day of June 11, 1964. In witness thereof: Mrs. Agnes Allen, Mr. Earle Cooper, Mr. William Curran. Clayton to Alison Many, many years ago on the slopes of Mount Parnassus in Greece in the little settlement of Delphi was a temple sacred to the god Apollo. To this tem- ple came all who wished to know what the future held for them. There they consulted the priestess of Apollo, who, filled with divine inspiration, answered their anxious queries. Today the temple lies in ruins; gone are the marble col- umns and the prophetic vapors. But there still remains the two requisites for pro- phecy - the eager seekers for knowledge of their future lot and the inspired pries- tess who gives tongues to the divinely prompted words. Tonight we have on the one hand, the members of the senior class of S. B. H. S. who wish to know what their fate will be and on the other hand the spirit- ual descendant of the priestess Delphi. Grant us this boon, oh maiden; design to answer our humble questions; speak to us, oh oracle. Alison To Clayton To you who come to the threshold of our shrine, we will speak - ask on - Rick Hersom and Sally Harvey both ask about their jobs. Rick wonders if he is doomed to Timmy's garbage truck and Sally asks if she will be peddling sodas at Flynn's. Dennis Hussey asks if he will ever get that Ford running. Joyce Rousseau asks what is in store for her in the future. Warren Perry's question is when will the Redsox have a season; and Susan Bolio asks if there are many horses in her life. Evelyn Partridge is wondering if her pupils in the back row will be able to hear her when she becomes a teacher. William Story's question is will my handicap ever get below 35 strokes. Both Barbara Proof and Joyce Ronco ask if their graduating is really actually hap- pening. Phil Williams asks if the three Williamses will ever play on the same team again? Richard Tetu’s question is do Blondes really have more fun? Scott Baker's often repeated question is, will the Redsox ever win the Pennant. Emily Blaisdell is still wondering why she took biology. Larry Carignan wonders if he will ever escape the nickname Veggie. Ray Collier asks if his hot Ford will remain in one piece for the remainder of the year. Eric Ives wonders if he will ever compete translating Vergil. Nancy Ladd asks when? David Moore's thoughts are all Ice cream at the moment. Arthur Parent is dubious as to how he ever got through that physics course and Evelyn Dudley asks if her three years of French will be of any use to her in Lewiston. IS SHE KIDDING? Leslie Horr asks two questions 1. Will he win his bet with Mrs. Allen about graduation about his being happy at gradua- tion. 2. Will he get that certain professor in English Composition at the University. David Mayo asks for an opinion as to which instrument, his sax or his clarinet, he should play in the U. N. H. band next year. Barbara Blanchette is dubious as to the status of the Mariners in the next few years. Russel Clough asks for an easy way to patch rust holes in cars, his to be exact. Richard Gallant asks if he will ever find a car to replace his Chevy? Sharon Michaud wonders what will happen in beauty school and Donna Sterling wonders what the service is like. Clifford Cleary makes a plea for a part for his transmission, he has to take it out again, 18TH time! Michael Anderson wonders if he will get sea sick while in the Navy. Tony Cross' question is Is it finally over?
