Through the efforts of this group, organized in September, 1948, forty- two maroon and gold band uniforms and over 81,000 worth of instruments were purchased. The club raised over 33.600 in two months' time, through the cooperation of merchants and townspeople, who gave generously to the band. Officers who led the club in its active first year were: Mrs. Arnold Leber, presidentg Mrs. Vail Steele, secretaryg and Mrs. L. W. Taylor, treasurer.
