His humor, kindness, and understand- ing both as a teacher and advisor will be long remembered. P 'Ms ,.,,,, GRADUATES OF 1964 Your parents, teachers, and friends are GRADUATES OF 1964 Upon commencing into a different life from proud of you on graduation day and rightfully so high school some of you are going to college, because you have achieved something that is extraordinary. However, do not stop your edu- cation at this important time in your life. Formal in-school education is but an incident in the lifetime of an individual. Most of us who have given the subject any study have come to realize that education is a continuous ending only when ambition comes to a halt. Congratulations! and best wishes for success and happiness to each of you. John R. Althoff, Superintendent some work in trades, some in business, some in professional work, and some in homemaking. There is something everyone of you can do re- gardless what you do after high school. You can all help our nation improve by being strong Americans. This means being a leader or active member of your community and your groups. It means doing your job well each day. It also means keeping informed about the affairs in your community, your state, your country, and your world. Help your nation be strong. Congratulations on successfully completing your high school education which is an impor- tant foundation for your future. Kenneth R. Reidenbach, Principal CHUOL BOARD Left to right: P. Chambers, I. Now we, as Seniors declare this to be the only true and valid will made by us thus far. LOOKING BACK We started the year off as 95 freshmen in 1961. We were young, eager, and all excited about finally getting to high school. Our advisors for that year were Mr. Gulatto, Mr. Curran, Mrs. Wil- cox, and Mr. Pruefer. We did not have a freshman trip, but we did start saving money to go on our Senior trip. First of all, we out did everyone in the homecoming float contest by coming out with a big first place with our Mow Em Down. This, of course, made us really feel big. As our can- didates for homecoming queen we had Joanne Mickey and Shirley Beckus. We also put on dances in order to raise money. By the end of the year we were happy-go-lucky students and nothing could faze us anymore--we thought. As sophomores, our advisors were Mr. Pruefer, Mt. Curran, Mrs. Wilcox, and Mr. Peterson. We were '77 eager and happy kids, but now we started to really think about our trip and how to make money. We organized a cake walk that really made money for us, and we had more dances. In that year we also had a father and son game that not only made us money, but that was a lot of fun, too. We again took first place with our float, Bowl Em and that made us feel good. In that year we had Shirley Beckus and Cheryl Moldenhauer as our homecoming attendants. We left high school that year ready and willing to become juniors and still happy-go-lucky as ever. Our junior year started off as a good year with '76, Our advisors were Mr. Curran, Mr. Moloney, Mrs. Stapleton, and Mrs. Mortonson. We tried making money by having a spaghetti splash, selling Christmas cards, and having a few car washes. This year we did not come out first place with Time to Win in the float contest, but we did come in a close second. Our homecoming candi- dates this year were Shirley Beckus and Karen Speich. We put on a junior-senior banquet and had a good time at that. We also put on a prom, Evening ln Paris, at which Sam Gonzales was king and Karen Speich was queen. When we left this year we were already getting excited to be seniors next year. The big year had arrived. Our advisors this year were Mr. Curran, Mr. Moloney, and Mrs. Stapleton. We had dropped down to a class of 62 and now we were really going all out to try and get money to go on our trip. We had quite a few projects, such as selling Christmas cards, selling magazines, a spaghetti splash, car washes, concession stands, put on dances and put on a class play which Mr. Palmer directed for us. We came back again this year to win first place in the float contest. Our queen candidates were Donna Callahan and Kaye Hill. We finally got enough money to go on our trip and go on it we did, and had a good deal of fun, too. After that we got ready for Baccalaureate and Graduation. Finally the big day arrived--Graduation! I We had fun during our four years at S. B. H. S. , and we would like to thank all of our advisors, friends, and all those who helped make this a memorable four years for us. We will always remem- ber these years as some of the best ones of our life. LOOKING AHEAD Dear Mom: I am having a great time on my vacation. On the plane to New York I found the hostess to be SUSIE AMEIGH. She and I talked to FRED PETITT, the well-known business executive. Landing at Miami we found DON PETRICK on a vacation from Cape Kennedy where he worked on rockets, waiting for DICK ZARNSTORF, the bowling champion. I talked to them, then went to a hotel where I saw EARL PERKINS, President of Montgomery Ward. MAUREEN MARTINEZ was the waitress at the restaurant I ate at that night, and I talked to her. On the plane to New York the next day, I found LYNN LARSEN, the fashion designer going on a fashion tour. My next stop was New York. I decided to see a baseball game and found the famous baseball player, DICK YORK. Dick and I were talking when he invited me to go to Ciarpaglini's Tavern where we would see MARY ANN CHIPS, Mary Ann had left so seeing ORVILLE ALWES, America's Number 1 playboy, we talked to him until we saw KAYE HILL there on a long delayed honeymoon. The next day I rented a car and pulled into a gas station where I found TEDDY DEVER owner and BRUCE BUCKNER as manager. Talking to them I found the station across the street owned by HENRY LIPINSKI and NICK ANASTASI and his wife PHYLISS was giving them competition. Going to see Princi- pal EDDIE D'HANIS 'I found him meeting with teachers, Cl-IERYL ADLEMAN and CHERYL MOLDENHAUER and Coach BOB LOWERY. I learned band leader JOHN HINES was nominated for band leader of the year, but that SAM GONZALES was also in the running. From there I went to see DON GOLDSMITH, the used car dealer and his secretary, DONNA CALLAHAN. While talking, in walked BOB CASIDY, his rival, to trade cars. Saying goodbye I ran into SUZY KORB back from Germany. On Sunday BOB ANACKER gave a sermon and CHARLENE PAULSON sang a solo in church. I then took the plane for Chicago. The first person I saw was GLADYS EDWARDS going on a homemaking tour. Then I saw CAROL SANDER, secretary for an insurance agency run by KAREN SPEICH. Having lunch, I saw DARRELL MARTIN and JIM PARMA, the 2 Naval Reserve Training instructors. They said Ihad missed seeing Admirals, PAUL FORESMAN and RICH CHRISTOPHERSEN. I also saw SHERRIE YORK and LYLA WICKS who were secretaries in Chicago. Later Iran into VAUGHNA LISTENBEE and MARY GASKINS, both happily married. At the hotel I ran into SANDY MARTINGILIO, National YWCA Director. At the show we saw usher NORM CHRISTOPHERSON, and in the crowd were KEITH COOK, SPENCER CRUSE, and IOHN SCHULTZ. We all went to Hanson's Inferno, owned by BOB HANSON. There we saw Miss Chicago, JOANNE MICKEY. On the way back policeman RICKIE LOCKHART stopped our car and said to slow down. The next day I saw TERRY MEYER and DENNIS NICOLLS on their break from IBM Company. RICH WARDMAN was the editor of the news- paper I later visited. Going back to South Beloit, I found LINDA LOGAN and MARGARET SLABACK on the train. Getting back we went to Brignolo's, the former White's, now SUSIE BRIGNOLO'S where we saw ALLETHA DAPRON and JOYCE EAGO who told us that DOROTHY LEVERSON was living in Rockford. While there we saw the President of the Chevy Plant, EUGENE DAVIS drive by. Back home again, I found 2 letters from California--one from SHIRLEY BECKUS and one from LOIS MARKIN. They both said they like married life. Well, Mom, it is now late and I have to go to work tomorrow so I have to say goodbye for now. We all compete at one time or another, whether it be at games, in class, or in adult life. Athletics in high school serves as a learning situation to help meet this competitiong to win, if we can, as a championg to lose, if we need be, not willingly, but critically, with an intention of improvement. Participation in athletics helps to teach the responsibility that is nec- essary in a competitive society.
