Senlor Class Prophecy It was a warm sunny May Day ln the year 1970 I was r1d1ng along Sputnlk Avenue IH my red and whlte Marksmoblle the latest creatlon of the automotlve gemus Raube Marks when I not1ced the famtllar names of Mlss Judie Love and Tom Lamb In a brllllant show of lxghts above the Chlcago theater announcing the newest h1t ln clnerama pictures Rendezvous on a South Sea Island I decxded to take In the movle and flnd out whether they were the same people who were In my graduatlng class of l958 I pulled Into one of the newly constructed elevated parklng lots In a cham owned and operated by Vlncent Daugherty and jake Whlttwer Comlng out of the parkmg lot I met the famlllar face of Rich Wrtgh who told me he had recently been appomted flnanclal adv1ser of Marshall Fleld and was leaving for Pans w1th the company s fashlon expert jeanme Moffltt to see the latest creatlons from France As I walked Into the lobby of the theater I not1ced under comlng attractlons that the Duane HanamanVar1ety Show would be featurmg Byron Gxlllam and Rlchard Turman in a danclng and slnglng routlne on June 21 Other acts lncluded Mlss lanlce Gray famous opera star and Ken Lowery and hls tramed ammals Stopplng at the concessxon a gold plaque attracted my attention which was engraved wlth the names of the Board of Dlrectors of the theater These Included Gus Saladmo Robert Wood Danny Fago and Don Baxter I was about to take my seat when I accldentally bumped the lady 1n front of me Turmng to apologlze I recogmzed her to be another classmate Jeannle Sharp After an apology and greetmgs since the cartoon was beginning I took my seat The anlmatnon of the cartoon was done by Laverne Tadder the well known cartoonlst Fxrst on the screen we saw james Cartwrlght stepplng off the plane ln New York He was returnmg from a good w1ll tour to the Mlddle East where he was an ambassador I also rec ogmzed Lavma Eucker and Donna Brown members of the House of Representatlves of Illmots durlng a debate Durlng the newsreel and attempted prison break at San Quinton was shown ln whlch two prlson guards Charles Davls and Homer Franklm blocked the escape of six prlsoners for whlch they recelved metals for bravery The sportsreel followed begmnmg w1th professlonal basketball In the last few seconds of a tled game lim Martlnglllo a former star of South Belolt sunk a long shot to wm the game for the Minneapolls Lakers Also In the sportsreel was shown Chet Fngebretson pro fesstonal golfer who had just won the U S Open Golf Tournament Next came a short on fashlons In whlch appeared some more 1958 graduates The models were Dxane Stanley Elalne Kramar and Dlane Garber accentmg the creatlons of Mlss Anna Hall Fmally the mam feature began Headmg makeup for the movle were Llnda Stlckler and Carol Newham The producer was Jlm Danner the owner of RKO studlos the d1rector was Robert Marks lt turned out the co stars were the same judle and Tom that I knew from hugh school After the movle ln the lobby of the theater I was admxrmg a beautiful stlver mlnk stole when the wearer turned I was startled to see that she was Juamta Blrch She told me she had marrled a multl mtlllonalre and had recently moved 1nto a new home designed by the recognlzed archttect Ron Boss I came out of the theater and saw d1rectly across the street a snack shop w1th the pecullar name Burger s burgers I asked the doorman about II He told me that nt was owned by Clementme and Louls Burger Turnmg from the doorman I almost ran mto Mattle Harper who told me she had married the new sensatlonal outf1elder for the Whnte Sox I dectded to stop ln at Fred Gross s Flammgo Club and chat w1th htm for a whxle before go1ng home I was greeted by the manager Bob Strasser who took me to Fred s office Wh1le talklng over old tlmes he told me that Loretta Smlth has recently been given recogm tlon for her newest novel and best seller As I drove home I was proud to know that so many of my former classmates had achxeved success n s D a 1 . . . Class HISIOIY Autumn ln the year 1954 found 110 eager boys and glrls enterlng South Belolt Hlgh School as freshmen We found our way wlth the aid of our advtsers Mxss Norcross Mrs Gruhlke M Harper, and Mr Gllkey The offlcers we selected to gulde us were Loretta Smlth Presxdent Rlchard Turman Vlce prestdent Charles Barr Secretary Deanna Gallagher Treasurer Our homecomlng float won thlrd place As homecomxng attendant we elected Mary Lou Vnsgar Later ln the year we had a successful dance Two members of the freshman class were on the court for the prom Loretta Smlth was queen and jeanme Moffltt was the elected attendant The following fall our number decreased to 65 M1ss Norcross and Mr Gllkey remamed as our advisers Our offlcers thls year were Presldent Rxch Wrlght Vlce presldent Jamce Gray Secretary Tom Schroeder Treasurer Jean Moffltt We aga1n elected Mary Lou Vlsgar to represent our class as homecom1ng attendant Growmg smaller stlll our class of Juniors was reduced to 44 Wlth the departure of Mr Gllkey Mr Mlckelson along wlth M1ss Norcross became our advlsers Gettmg off to a good presldent Anna l-lall, Secretary jake Whlttwer, Treasurer Agam thls year we won 3rd prlze ln the homecoming floats Loretta Smlth and Jeannle Sharp were elected homecomlng attend ants Our treasury was steadxly growlng wlth the money earned from sell1ng Chrlstmas cards Our Junlor Prom theme Moonllght Trall and the banquet IH honor of the senxors cl1maxed the sprlng of our Jumor year It was the fmal year for 42 senxors at SBHS Mxss Holm took Mlss Norcross s place as semor adviser along w1th Mr Mnckelson Fred Gross, Presldent Jake Whtttwer Vxce pres ldent James Danner, Secretary and Duane I-lanaman Treasurer were elected class offlcers The sellmg of sweatshlrts the proflt from the concessxon stand at games and durxng the noon hour and dances ralsed our treasury xn preparatlon for a class trlp jeanme 'vloffxtt was elec ted homecomxng Queen The senxor attendant was Dlane Glersdorff Stanley We enjoyed our selves very much at the banquet and prom gracxously glven by the Junxors A successful class trxp preceded baccalaureate and graduatlon . . . , . , . , rn . , . . . . , .
